| There was feature on the Terrano / Maverick on Top Gear a week or so
back. There are basically the same vehicle and can be serviced at
either a Nissan or Ford dealer (I wonder which one is cheaper).
I have included 'Maverick' in the note title so that this can be a
generic note.

| Same car only one gets a 60,000 warranty, t'other gets 10,000 (?), one
costs 1,000 less than the other and IMHO the Japanese one somehow
looks better too.

| The appearance of the Nissan and the Ford are identical except for
the badge on the front and back.

| Thanks, I'll check on the prices at the local Ford garage as well. What
was the opinion of the Top Gear report, does anyone remember? (I'm in
France, sans BBC!)
Cheers,
Graham.

| As I remember, they said the Terrano was OK, but pretty
crappy off road. But then I'd have thought anyone who is
serious about driving off road would go and buy something
decent!

| You mean like a Prodrive Legacy or Impreza?
Sorry
I just couldn't resist it and I know that isn't quite what you meant.

Anyone got a Maverick?
Noticed that little Ford sticker on a pillar (windscreen, I think)?
Peel it off, underneath you'll find NISSAN stamped...

2160.8 | I drove the Terrano II! | VNABRW::KRAMER_F | | Wed Dec 29 1993 14:03 | 18 |
| I drove the terrano II/Maverick three weeks ago for two days!
It was a very boring expierience:
I had the Diesel Version with 100 PS.
On the expressway the maximum speed i could get was 130 km/h (about 70
miles/h)
The car is full of plastic environment, the only goody was an electric
sun roof.
Due to his short wheelbase, the car swings arround on higher speeds.
I know, the main fun with these kind of vehicles is to drive offroad or
in the snow,.
We had a lot of these in austria too. But the Terrano have no
friction-type differential amd no low speed gears (the old terrano had
one)
As a coclusion:
I see no sense to build or drive such a car: It is not a Jeep, it isn't
a city car, you have not much space for baggage and it weigt 1700kg!!!
So i was very satisfied to get back my old Ford Escort!!

| I recently drove a Terrano for a test drive and my views echo the
previous note.
It was surprisingly nice to drive around town being reasonably quiet and
a high viewpoint. It also has a big unique in that its the only
'budget' 4WD that comes with extra seats. This was my reason for trying
it. I was quite impressed till I hit the motorway. 60mph seemed to be
its 'comfort' speed and it had absolutely no acceleration above that.
It gradually crept up to 70mph but was working hard and, I suspect,
drinking fuel (we are talking diesel here).
I'm afraid this just was not a practical vehicle for long journies. Not
a patch on the Frontera 2.8 diesel I drove afterwards.
