Sounds a bit boring to me, if they have to spend that long telling you
how to drive. Save you're money and try Karts - much more fun and, if
you're doing the fixed drive/100cc, you'll be a fster/better driver
anyway (like Schumacher, Prost, Senna etc etc).

Silverstone have a more professional attitude to instruction IMHO, however,
Brands is much more fun to drive round!

To add to the list, Donnington has a racing school. I'm not quite sure
if they do the open-wheel, but I have definitely seen a tuned Calibra.
It is also recognised as a real challenge track, but then again, I'm a
rider, not a driver...

| Oulton Park, Mallory Park, Snetterton and Aintree all have schools.
Find someone with an RAC license, they should have a "blue book" and
all the phone numbers are in there, alternatively the numbers are on

| Thanks for all the answers so far. I'm in Switzerland so I would be glad
of any phone/fax numbers. If anybody has any prospects that they wouldn't
mind copying my location is EBO and mailstop is 1A09.
Thanks,
Paul O'Reilly.

2157.7 | Formula first at Snetterton | WELCLU::YOUNG | Policemen aren't nasty people | Tue May 23 1995 23:41 | 31 |

I know this is an old topic but.....
I did a super trial at Snetterton last week, it cost 130 and for that
we got a 45 min classroom briefing session, 3 laps under instruction in
a BMW (1,100 miles on the clock) then a lap with the instructor driving
to show how it should be done...now where did I put those clean
underpants? then 5 laps in a formula first, taking it easy just to get
the feel of the car. Then back in the BMW for 20 mins for more
instruction, then back in the formula first for ten timed laps with a
target time to achieve of 1:54 (I achieved 1:54.25) all of the above is
with a rev limit of 4000 which in 4th gear which we were also limited
to equates to about 90mph. Then we got a free lunch thrown in, a good
morning out!
I'm going to make a return trip in june to have another go as I felt I
was just getting the feel of it after 15 laps and just getting
confident enough to brake later and throw it in harder. The only rules
are overtake on left don't go over your rev limit and if you spin/go
off you forfiet your remaing laps. On the return visit I'm having
another 30 mins tuition in BMW then two ten lap sessions in the formula
first, but with another 1000 revs to play with and a lower target time
of 1:44.
If anyone was in any doubt it was an experience of a lifetime, and
great fun....once they shoe-horned me into the single seater 8*)
BTW the instructor reckons a formula first has a power/weight ratio
of three times that of a porsce 911 turbo....until I got in that is!
