Whilst I agree it's better than nothing, the actual sacing is probably in the
region of #250 max. I know the dealers charge #500, but the actual costs are
far less. This doesn't seem like much of a deal when spending anything
between #6,000 and #20,000 and would not persuade me to chosse Vauxhall over
othe manufacturers were I in a position to buy a new car.

I don't know where you get the 250 figure from. It's more than that.

The latest Vauxhall price list states the following :

VAUXHALL ON-THE-ROAD PACKAGE

...The packages includes number plates and delivery to the Vauxhall dealer.
The recommended price is as follows:

	Price 344.68 VAT 60.32 Total 405.00

Add onto this a full tank of petrol and the years road-tax and you get a voucher
worth about 550

Exactly! But if you think about how much a couple of number plates cost to
produce, how much delivery costs in REAL terms, #550 sounds similar to the
#26M figure quoted in the recent lease changes!!!!!!!

    My two penn'orth...

I see your point Ian, but as a buyer, shouldn't you consider how much
you are saving, rather than how much it's costing the other guy to give
    away.

Isn't the whole essence of negotiation getting as much as you want with
as little negative effect as possible on the other chap. Or do you
just want to see the other guy screwed?

With dealer margins down to 8 and 10%, opportunities to obtain
wortwhile discounts on cars to order are dwindling, and this looks to
me like a valuable benefit. Whereas the new car scheme ....?????? :-)

I cannot remember ever buying a car where I haven't negotiated the tax, fuel
tank, number plates, mud flaps being thrown in on the deal...

However, now you can negotiate a cheaper price, and then get the voucher
	out, and deduct that too.

The garage gets re-embersed for the voucher, so no skin off their nose!

Heard that Vauxhall have added nearly 2% to the cost of their cars.
Makes a Cavalier something like 200 more dosh.

So can we sell these on the black market outside Vauxhall showrooms to
    potential customers ? :-)

Seriously though, its probably best not to disclose this to the dealer
until you have already negotiated a good price.

I used a voucher to buy a car, but the car has to be registered in
your name and your name must appear on the insurance. Never ever having
had car insurance of my own before (9 years with DEC) some insurance
companies wouldn't touch me and those that would came out at about
#700. The answer was to put me on my girlfriends insurance..cost $47.
    car arrives next week...thanks Hilary
