The implication is you think you are getting a good deal. As I
understood it 'extras' were always priced to be written off over the
lease period on the basis that very few extras actually increase the
second hand value of a car. Therefore 275 x 3 = 825 which sounds
about right.

Sounds like a rip off to me. The new car policy states that there would be a
discount of between 25% and 50% for Vauxhall options. (Air con which
is 725 is available for 90/yr on some models!)

| I was quoted 1,000 to have one installed in a Calibra Turbo - since
it's not on the PCL you need a separate quote. I was also informed
by Wadham's in Reading that you have to have ICE which GM supply or
recommend i.e NO Sony, Alpine, Kenwood ...... etc.

| Wadham Kennings are the sort of garage who ring up PHH when you have a
problem with your Vauxhall alarm and tell them not to allow Digital to have VSL
alarms fitted !!!!
So as for the ICE bit - IMHO - they haven't got a *%%%ing clue.

PS
I had it towed in again the next day because they didn't fix it properly the
first time, only this time they were fully booked with no garage space and the
poor mechanic had to fix it outside in a terrible rain storm !!
Should have done it right first time !!!

2134.6 | CD Player for Vauxhalls | WOTVAX::ROXBURGHA | | Wed Nov 10 1993 14:13 | 9 |
| I've just rung up the local Vauxhall dealer and they will supply their single
CD/Radio for 108 quid + vat. This is a one off payment that is not connected
to the annual lease agreement.
The CD player replaces the Radio/Cassette player.

Andy.

2134.8 | | COMICS::FISCHER | | Tue Jan 18 1994 10:20 | 5 |
| Is 108 the cost price for the CD player or for the upgrade?
ie you pay 108 to have the standard radio cassette removed
and the CD put in.

108 is the upgrade cost; you lose the tape and gain the CD.

car scheme rip off!
|
2134.11 | | BAHTAT::DODD | | Wed Jan 19 1994 10:12 | 7 |
| Why do you think this is a rip-off? A CD will make no difference to the
residual value so the lease company recover the extra cost over the
term of the lease 108/3 = 36 so 35 seems OK to me. It has always been
the case that non-significant extras have been fully charged over the
lease.

| From Craig Johnston's letter to all employees - June 28th 1993
"Employees will also be able to order from this list a range
of Vauxhall factory fitted options at between 25% and 50%
discount..."
or is a CD dealer fit.

| well, if you count the fact that the price including VAT is 128, then the
cost of (3*35 = 105) means you could argue that there is a discount of around
18% being offered...
[no, it's not a dealer fit option]

The difference is that if you are registered for VAT (compulsory if
your turnover exceeds, I think, 35,000.00 per Annum), that you can claim back
the VAT paid out against the VAT you have to pay in to H.M. Customs ans Excise.

2134.16 | Ah, but ... | MUGGER::GRAHAM | Graham Smith, Solution Support Group | Thu Jan 20 1994 12:08 | 4 |
| But there are some things which a company has to pay VAT on which they
cannot claim the VAT back on. Some years ago the rules changed, such
that the company that I was working for at the time could no longer
claim back the VAT on the (one and only) company car.

This is not true, if it was for the use of the company.
> Some years ago the rules changed, such
> that the company that I was working for at the time could no longer
> claim back the VAT on the (one and only) company car.
The rules changed to try to prevent a personal car being disgused as a
company car.
Digital changed the rules of it's car scheme at that time, to be able to
claim the VAT back.
You just have to talk with the Inland revenue, and find out what the
allowances and restrictions are.
Then you take your choice - to stick within the allowances/restrictions
and claim the VAT back - or to work outside those
allowances/restrictions and pay the VAT.

Hi,
Has anyone any experience with the Vauxhall single CD/Tuner.
Any comments on sound quality, what makes it skip etc., would be very welcome.
Thanks,

The one fitted in the Calibra I had was OK, nice sound, good volume,
but it cooked CD's (like all-in-one tape units can do). Not sure what
adverse effect this would have on the CD's, but they were seriously
warm after 30 minutes.

Had my CD player four days now. I've got a 1.7TD gls wrapped
around it. No problems yet, Infact I think its rather good. I would
have liked a few other gadgets + speakers that can handle base, but on
the whole I like it.

2134.22 | replace Vectra hifi with own unit for duration of lease? | KZIN::HUDSON | That's what I think | Mon Mar 03 1997 16:06 | 22 |
| I went for the CD upgrade mentioned in .7 when I had my last Cavalier.
I've been really pleased with the CD player; it was well worth the extra
money.
But now my car is up for renewal. In order to have the option of a CD
player in a Vectra, you have to get a GLS. For an LS or an Envoy, the
catalog (and Wadham Kenning) say that you can't upgrade to a CD player.
I don't want to pay an extra load of money + tax to get a GLS just so I
have the option of adding a CD player!
I mailed Vauxhall to ask if it would be possible to take out the unit
that comes with the LS or Envoy and then put it back at the end of the
lease but they didn't answer me.
Has anyone any experience of doing this? I realise that if I take out
the original unit then any one I put in won't work with the dashboard
display stuff but I'm not bothered about this...
Thanks for any comments

You may want to get in touch with Simon Austin as he is planning to
fit his own personal CD player and auto changer into his new Vectra
which is being delivered shortly. Currently he has it in his Astra.
