| Well, the one good thing about the new scheme is that the Astra and
Cavalier Diesels are actually less that the base allowance.
This means you can not only save on fuel costs but also supplement
your salary by getting change out the allowance.
I am considering a Cavalier LS 1.7 TD.
If you didn't get chance to try a Vauxhall diesel at one of the
roadshows then contact one of the garages listed in vtx for a test
drive.

| I often get the Cavalier 1.7TD as a hire car, and I'm very impressed
with it. The performance might not be 'hot hatch', but its no slouch
either, and the economy is quite good also.

The Corsa 1.5TD has the Merit spec. Pretty basic to say the least. Once it
gets wound up, it barrels along OK...

slower, and thirstier.

| Why is it that only Citren/Peugot offer Diesels on the highest trim Specs?
Anybody know?
It was, after all, Citren/Peugot who really pushed Diesel car Sales to their
present market share by offering top of the range trim specs. for them. If you
go, as has been mentioned by others in this conference, to any Japanese car
dealer and ask for Diesel on a car, they laugh at you - they don't have anything
sensible to offer, so they try and deride the one asking!
Why is it that the XUD engine is still so far ahead of ALL the competition, even
though their TD has been on the market for, what, 6 years now?
Malcolm,
who is waiting for his Xantia SX/VSX TD quote!
PS. Yes, I will post it in Topic 2120 when I get it!

| The Montego Turbodiesels go all the way up the range. They use the
rather nice Perkins Prima DI Turbo. I'll bring you in a catalogue
tomorrow if I remember....

BMW Diesels, yes, if I had the money. Right out of my range to buy or
lease and the fuel economy is consirably than my BX TZD Turbo.
Vauxhall? I would call the Diplomat the top of the range, not the CD!
Montego? Isn't that the Diesel that fails the E.C. Emmission
Regulations? I followed one this morning and I've never seen such thick black
smoke - and he wasn't even accelerating!

Rover did get some kind of waiver for their diesel engine a couple of
years ago, but then they did some kind of re-design with the injectors,
and made the turbo standard (even on the Maestro) and I understand the
current one does comply with the EEC regs.
(This is the engine in the Montego and Maestro, not the 218 and 418, which
are Puegot buy-ins)
re the trim;
I thought the CD trim from Vauxhall was on a par with the TZD from Citroen -
the main thing I noticed is the fact that air-conditioning isn't
available as an option on the CD.

| I read somewhere that the new Carlton or is it called the Omega is going to use
the BMW 2.5 Turbo Diesel engine and not the Vauxhall 2.3 Turbo Diesel engine.
So it maybe worth holding on if you are in the market for that type of car on
the scheme.

Quite! One thing I NEED for my annual trip to Spain is this! It isn't
so much the trim quality (or standard) but the available options.
Malcolm.
PS. where's my Xantia quotes then?

Isn't this evidence of the quality/performance of "small" Japanese
Diesel engines? Or rather the lack of same?
Malcolm.
