 Hi,

Its a long time since I bought any herbie bits, but if you join the
BEETLE owners club, you get a dismount book giving you %tage off loads
of different products from all over the country. It was 9 pounds
a year when I was a member (about 5 years ago!), and you receive a
quarterly update giving VW events, where you can meet other BEETLE
boffins and you can also pick up some cheap second hand parts.
What kind of BEETLE do u have? do you want to customize it ?, as
sometimes the custom parts are cheaper than the originals!!

 cheers,

 Stewart Piesley @HHL

    I have a 1972 1300 which I just aquired.The bodywork is almost
immaculate. However there are a few mechanical things which need to be
    sorted out.

I'm not sure yet but i'd like to spend some time getting it looking and
    driving like.......heaven!

Have you tried asking in IOSG::AIR_COOLED ?
I haven't got any beetle mags with me today so can't help at the
    moment.

    Steve.

    >> New break shoes.

Nip down to WH Smiths and have a peek at the ads in "VW Motoring" and
"Volksworld" magazines. I can't be more help as I'm on garden leave
    and only read this once-a-week.

    Steve.

    (This is a wind-up isn't it ? - I mean you do know it's BRAKE not break
    don't you :-) )

Thanks I bought a copy of VW Motoring and it has an extensive list
of bits and pieces for Bugs.I also got a great insurance deal from an
add in there and it was about one third cheaper than my last one!!!

Having just moved over from Canada, I can't help but be amazed by the
number of BUGS on the road here and what immaculate shape they are in.
I know that VW were planning on releasing the BUG again in an updated
format but these seem to be the original design.
    Amazing!

VW is coming out with the Concept 1, which is supposed to be the Bug for the
90's or the 21st century or something. It somewhat resembles the Bug, but
last I heard is fwd with a watercooled engine....

Hopefully it will maintain some of the original 'concepts' of the Bug, cheap
transportation, easy to work on, fun to drive, no heat :-), etc...

didn't the original bug only have a speedo in the way of intrumentation, so
the driver didn't have too much to concentrate on? Unlike the Hippy Wagon,
where you had to drive according to what the oil temperature gauge said!

...and, production of a slightly redesigned Beetle has started
production again in Brazil. This should mean cheaper more available
parts too. The Bug scene in this country is huge, I can still remember
the (ok, maybe slightly sad) thrill of turning off of a main road into
a the field of my first Bug-fest and seeing hundreds if not several
thousand beetles neatly parked in all conditions, colours and
conversions. It was a nice community to belong to, despite the way that
people look at you (as though you're completely mad) when you explain
to them why you wave to other Beetle drivers.

Sadly my bug and I parted company just over 6 months ago :( I've got
    his bigger brother now.

Of course, they still make Beetles in Mexico and apparently use them as taxis
a lot. They are not US legal (emissions and safety standards).

Yes, Beetles have been in production in South America continuously
for decades. I saw a beetle in a show room at the VW dealership
in Reading but the shop was closed so could only see it from the
window. I thought it might be the new design. Don't know though.

If it was , then it looked the same as the older models on the outside.
