I think that GM have about 25% of Isuzu, and also have some joint ventures
with them.

For example, in the UK the old Bedford vans business is now a 50/50 venture
with Isuzu, and the Frontera is an Isuzu design.

The dieseld engines fitted to the Corsa (1.5 and the TD) also come from
Isuzu.

Does this not entitle us to "special deals" on Isuzus. Saab
are only 50% owned by GM and we get real value for money on
Saabs!!!!!

    I first encountered Isuzu in the Philippines in 1980 where one of the
    most common cars were what we would call Vauxhall Chevette Saloons.
    They were called Isuzu Geminis. Isuzu were and still are responsible
    for supplying a large percentage of the diesel engines that power the
    country's famous 'Jeepneys'.

2126.4Vauxhall Trooper?WELCLU::YOUNGPolicemen aren't nasty peopleWed Aug 11 1993 14:458

    I don't know how true it was, or if I understood fully but one of the
    guys running the roadshow thingy at Fareham said that next year the
    Isuzu Trooper will be marketed in this country by Vauxhall next year, I
    guess this means it will be a Vauxhall trooper.......and therefore
    should appear on our list.

    Ref 1 back Vauxhall will be bringing the Opel Monterey (Izuzu Trooper)
    under Euro-Opel badging to UK next year.

2126.6Frontera is an Isuzu design anyway...HEWIE::RUSSELLI'm not a free man, I'm a QS-PRMU9-04.Wed Aug 11 1993 15:068
isn't it?

I thought the Frontera was actually built by IBC, the joint venture
with Isuzu and Vauxhall that took over the light commercial vehicles bit.

But I could be wrong (again!)

    Vauxhall said to me at the DECpark roadshow that they would be
    introducing a 'people carrier' shortly. Why would they introduce the
    Trooper when the Frontera already fills that space?

    Actually on second thoughts I'm not sure even the LWB Frontera comes
    with any more than 5 seats.

    Richard,

    Why do we sell Unix and OpenVMS?
    Why do Dixons operate Currys and Dixons shops?
    Why do ...

    If you get two bites at the cherry and enough business then the more
    brands the better.

Why have a people carrier, rather than a Frontera?

Well, the Espace averages about 30mpg, carries 7 people in complete comfort,
is incredibly adaptable (i.e. you can remove up to 5 seats), and drives much
better than reports I've read for off-roaders.

I borrowed an Espace for a recent holiday in France, and am very impressed!

2126.10Does it replace or complement the Frontera?BAHTAT::DODDTue May 10 1994 09:277
    Spotted last night in the Crown Hotel, Harrogate car park.
    Two Vauxhall Monterey sheds on wheels. Badged as 3.2 LTD - presumably L
    trim Turbo Diesel. Brand shiny new. Difficult to tell the seating
    arrangement as full of gear but didn't appear that much larger than a
    Frontera. Was more "boxy" so may well hold more people.

2126.11Isuzu MonterayVANGA::KERRELLDECUS - Coventry May 15-18 1995Fri May 12 1995 14:388
Digital have spent the last ten weeks arguing over the engine replacement in a
leased Isuzu Monteray. Vauxhalls want 11K to replace a failed engine, which
they claim was damaged by 'driver abuse'. The driver abuse in question was
taking it offroad. Vauxhalls claim that some mud got onto the radiator causing
overheating. The engine had done 12,000 miles. Meanwhile, the driver has had to
drive around in hire cars whilst paying the Monteray lease price!

    I know its splitting hairs but there ain't no such thing as an
    "Isuzu Monteray". It may be a rebadged Isuzu Trooper but its definately
    a Vauxhall Monteray.

    Sooooo, let me get this straight, an OFF ROAD vehicle got mud on it and
    broke the engine!

    Sounds like Vauxhall should stump up to me.

How long is it before your taxable benefit changes? I thought it was 30 days.
The driver should report the lack of the car (and the hire car alternative(s))
to the taxman on his tax return, providing "proof", of course ...
