I need to replace the coolant in my 1300 Astra (Mk II). Are there any interesting tips I need to know about draining & refilling it, or is it just a question of loosening a likely-looking hose clip somewhere down the bottom of the radiator ? The owner's manual claims that "this is a job best left to your Vauxhall dealer" - but then it would, wouldn't it. Thanks, Trevor

Anyway, it's usually a straightforward job, just ensure the heater controls are set to the 'hot' setting and make sure that you re-check the level once you have got the engine to normal temperature (when the thermostat will open). I have an equal amount of Astra knowledge to -1, but it may help to clear air locks to leave the rad cap off until after the stat has opened. This way, air is cleared through the filler neck instead of travelling around the system & ending up in the heater core or worse. TJ |
