1951.2 | Doubt that lease costs will go down | IOSG::SHOVE | Dave Shove -- REO-D/3C | Fri Nov 13 1992 09:04 | 9 |
| I doubt that it will be reflected in lease costs. The last reduction
wasn't (and indeed, the first page of the FLEET entry in VTX _still_
says so!)
What then happens, of course, is that everyone puts in quotes for cars
which are only minutely different from one on VTX.
Dave (who has just ordered a car from VTX, and so is stuck with the
price no matter what. Sigh.)

| Yep,
Looks like EVERYONE should put a quote in, as it must be cheaper than
the fixed price scheme.

| Text of my mail to Fleet @10:16am today.
"Lamont's Statement
In Norman Lamont's Autumn Statement to Parliament yesterday, two things
that may affect Car Lease prices were announced.
1) The removal of the 5% special purchase tax on new car prices.
2) A further reduction of 1% in Minimum Lending Rate.
The affect of these changes on Digital's Car Leases will be analysed by
the Carfleet Review Group. Any alterations to lease prices will be
made as and when it is appropriate.
Regards
Doug"

| I am due to take delivery of a new car on Monday (custom quote) and the
dealer has stated that they will be invoicing PHH with the new price,
around #700 lower than the original invoice price. As for whether this
gets passed on to me, fleet told me today that this was to be discussed
at the next car fleet meeting. They did imply that a post delivery
requote was a possibility - nbut personally I'm not holding my breath.
As for the basket priced cars, I wouldn't think that they will change.

| Read in the paper to-day that to pay the government back the money
that they will lose by scrapping the car tax is....to put up the
price of road tax by 30 pounds and also the price of un-leaded
up by seven pence and 4* by fourteen early next year.
So before you all rush out and buy a new car, think will it be worth
it.
Cheers Andy.

Andy,
I don't follow your resoning - EVERYONE with a car will have to pay
the increase in road tax and petrol. The only way to recoup any of this
additional cost is to buy a new car. This measure is clearly designed
to boost sales of new cars.

If you order a car from the preferred list, they go through the motions
of the quote system, but you pay the price quoted on VTX regardless of
what the quote says when it comes back.

Why should we all have to pay more to allow the car makers to produce
more and more cars which joe public has indicated that they do not
want.Plus the majority of new cars sold are company bought and the
private owners have to pay for their company perks.
Cheers Andy.

In .8, I was not expressing my approval or disapproval of the idea -
just pointing out the logic behind it. It is clearly designed to
encourage the sales of new cars.
.11>Why should we all have to pay more to allow the car makers to produce
.11>more and more cars which joe public has indicated that they do not
.11>want.
Where is the evidence for this ? If there is so little interest in new
cars, why is this notes conference so full of quotes from Car Fleet ?
Digital employees are part of joe public too.
.11> Plus the majority of new cars sold are company bought and the
.11>private owners have to pay for their company perks.
I'm afraid that I don't see what you're getting at here.
