| I'd guess there are going to be a lot of interesting Cavaliers now as
the model is due a facelift and the new Sierra is due out early next
year. I hope they build a hatchback 4*4 turbo (was the ascon hatch &
4*4 ?). I think the shape of the
hatch is great and have never understood why they only build booted
versions of the sportier models. My cynical view is that if they built
a real sporty hatch Cavalier, no one would buy the Calibra.

Assuming you mean the GSi (not the SRi, which is built in hatch form),
the car is built (like the Calibra) on the 4WD floorplan which doesn't
leave much space in the back for a good sized hatch area.

Cynical? Maybe. Right? No.

| When I bought my Cavalier 4x4 (the poverty model rather than the one
with a full complement of electronic ball-scratchers) about 3 years
ago, I asked when they were going to bring out a hatch-back version.
They gave me a load of bullshit (?) about needing good rear shocks and
stiff rear part of car to keep the wheels on the ground. I didn't (don't)
have enough knowledge to know if there is much truth in this
explanation.
