1835.0. "Are Hondas really this good ?" by AYOV17::KMILLIGAN () Mon Jul 20 1992 11:32

    < Honda Ballade EXi>

Can any experienced Honda owners explain why Iam so pleased
    with new car.

I have driven a mixture of cars through my life varying from
    Fords,volvos,fiat,cavalier,mitsubisha and recently bought a
Honda Ballade EXi 1988 F reg as a second car.
I had read reports that the Honda was a good car but my
expectations have been more than met.

I find the car excellent in every aspect :- Build quality
                                                Ergonomics
                                                Vision
                                                fuel consumption
                                                Handling

The most impressive aspect, however, is performance. The 1.5 EXi
engine is a treat. It is extremely responsive, quiet, smooth and
what was intended to be a second car for the wife is now my
car of choice.(she can have the volvo)
The power steering on this model makes the car almost drive
    itself.

I know iam raving a bit but could someone tell me if Iam just
lucky or are all Hondas this good or is it just relevant to the
junk I have driven in the past.

Any reports for or against Hondas welcome.

See my reply in the PRELUDE note 1828.
1835.2Is it a Hover or a Ronda ?WARNUT::RICEA human resourceMon Jul 20 1992 14:386
Isn't this the one that is the same as a Rover 200 ?

I remember smiling when looking at a CAR long term test, they had a
photo of the "plate" under the bonnet, it said ...Built by Rover.

The Ballade was the old shape (ugly!) Rover 200 equivalent. The new shape
is the Concerto. I know Rover make the Concerto, so I presume they also
made the Ballade.

1835.4A load of Ballades to meWARNUT::RICEA human resourceTue Jul 21 1992 10:569
    OK so I meant Concerto.....

I think the Ballade was only made by Honda, there was (I think) also
some agreement that meant you didn't see many of them in the UK.

    Stevie.

(What does Ballade *MEAN* anyway ?)

Could be the French for "ballad" ... although why this should be I don't
know.

Nissan call a car a Cedric! I don't think the meaning of a name has a
lot of importance to the Japanese. They're more concerned that it
sounds 'right' for the market! People in Japan like the Englishness of
the name Cedric, but it would go down like a lead baloon in the UK!

I don't think the meaning of a name has a lot of importance to
      the Japanese...

I was always dissapointed that they didn't follow the "Laurel"
    	with a "Hardy".

I'm sure that I recall a bit of motoring lore which says that Nissan
were only just persuaded not to launch the 240Z in the UK as the
Nissan "Pansy"........ ;-)

    Re: .3

Do Rover really make the Concerto? I knew the deal was to match
designs, basic body style, floorpan, mechanicals, but I never heard
    Rover manufactured them.

Which plant are they made at?

The Concerto is made at Longbridge,I understand on the same line as the
Rover. The cars are then transported to Honda at Swindon for final
    checks.

bit late on this reply but ballade in French means a stroll....through
the woods, town anywhere but emphasis on relaxed.

No it doesn't. That's with one "L" ...

As I said a few back, with two "L"s it means balad.
