1834.1 | Much of a muchness | TASTY::JEFFERY | I do not think you wanted to do that! | Mon Jul 20 1992 10:58 | 7 |
| The ZX has more space as it is bigger.
I gather that the ZX has better ride.
I've tried the ZX Volcane and the Clio and liked both.

1834.3 | Straight from the shop... | NZOMIS::TURRELL | nil et barstardum est vert il carborundum | Tue Jul 21 1992 03:33 | 28 |
| hi Malcolm,
the rental deal is offered straight from the manufacturer.
If you are a non-resident/dont earn Francs/rental period<180days
there is a tax break in French law that says a local manufacturer can
'sell' at normal list price less all tax and allowances. Renault and
Citroen have adopted this to provide a cheap (approx 10 pounds a day
for a ZX 1.4L) rental service of a new car with all insurance/AA/delivery
service costs included for overseas visitors (just encourages foreign
capital in the country I guess)
We looked at all the options that would get us into a car for a
period and this was the cheapest (irrespective of it being the simplest
and new car, less hassles with insurance's etc...)
Unfortunately New Zealand does not have a big representation of
Citroen or Renault so neither the ZX or Clio are avilable here - hence
the question.
Probably doesnt help at all huh??
regards
Al

Can you post details of the French rental scheme you intend to use.
How did you locate the outlet, was it through an agent in New Zealand?
Is there a minimum rental period, you just mention less than 180 days?
Does it operate through airports such as Charles de Gaulle or Nice?
Cheers
Dave

1834.5 | The ZX is bigger... | HEWIE::RUSSELL | HAL -> IBM; VMS -> Windows/NT | Tue Jul 21 1992 10:50 | 19 |
| as .1 said, the ZX is bigger than the Clio, but if there is only the two of
you that probably doesn't matter, unless you have a fair amount of luggage.
As both are hatchbacks, you could fold the rear seats down, and cover the
luggage with a blanket or something, but it could still be an open invitation
to a thief. The ZX has a good size boot.
The performance of either will be "acceptable" without being stunning (e.g,
Citroen don't even import the 1.1 ZX into the UK) but both will cruise at
a steady 80 without any problems.
So, you can either get a low spec, bigger ZX, or (probably a higher spec)
Clio, which will be smaller, and so easier to park, and slightly more
economical.
The CLio is about the same size as the Ford Fiesta, while the ZX is about
the size of the Ford Escort, if those models are sold in NZ.
Peter.

1834.6 | Volcane and Reflex chest-basher! | SUBURB::DELANYS | | Tue Jul 21 1992 14:28 | 13 |
| Well, I'm a ZX Volcane chest-basher: I have one as my lease car... But
my wife has a 1.4 Reflex! So I reckon I can comment...
In some ways, the Reflex is a more 'rounded' (in ability terms) car
than the Volcane. It's also noticeably larger than the Clio in the boot
department. On the odd occasion I drive the Reflex, I always get out of
it feeling pleasantly surprised at its dynamics: you'd never guess it
was bottom of its range.
It's a great car!

| Hello Al,
That helps a lot! at about 10 a day it's probably worth hiring
in France for a holiday in Scandanavia. In Copenhagen prices start
from 28 a day!
Do you have a contact?
