1832.0. "POWER ENGINEERING\" by REPAIR::CARTER () Fri Jul 17 1992 11:19

    		   Power Engineering

    	Has anyone out there had anything to do with Power Engineering.
    	They specialize in tuning the Ford 1.6 cvh engine.
    	They do power packs for the 1.6 which encorporates a rolling road
    	test and printout of the power output as the car comes into the
    	workshop and then a power printout after the modifications have
    	been carried out. They guarentee a minimum of 125 BHP after
    	completion for the XR2i.

    	The modifications are as follows for the XR2i power pack :-

    	 New camshaft
    	 K & N filter
    	 Better suited engine management chip (they dont rate the ford
    						EEC IV chip very highly)
    	 Motorsport lifters
    	 New cam belt and vernier timing wheel
    	 High lift double valve springs
    	 Change of oil and filter.

         Has anyone had a power pack fitted to there ford and if so
    	 do the mods make alot of noticeable difference ?

Sounds like the power is obtained to top end engine tuning.
Will the standard botton end handle the increase ?

    Are these the same people as referred to in note 918?

    I am sure that the bottom end on the XR2i is the same as on
    the RS Turbo and that can withstand considerably more power than
    125 BHP.
1832.4KURMA::IJOHNSTONFri Jul 17 1992 13:557
    Is the bottom end the same as the turbo???

    I always thought that they were made from a different material in order
    to withstand the greater heat and general wear and tear??

    I'm sure there is a review of a "Power Packed" XR2i in a recent copy
    of Performance Ford.

    I'll have a root about tonight and see.

    Gary.

    The review wasn't in fact a power packed XR2i from Power Engineering,
    but instead it was a conversion by a different company (whose name I
    have forgotten! - I left the mag on the kitchen table) which was Fast
    Ford and not Performance Ford. So you see I have been extremely
    accurate so far :-)

    The review had an XR2i with a change of head to make it 1.8 litres. It
    wasn't bored out, but was a brand new block. There is also a
    performance cam put in. Power output is raised to 146bhp with 150
    lbs/foot of torque. The cost though is very expensive. If I remember
    right it was well over 1,000.

    Another company called P&P Performance Engineering do an XR2i power
    pack conversion involving a new cam etc and they too promise 125bhp.
    The company is under the ownership of Mark Lovell and he recommands the
    conversion (well he would wouldn't he :-). It didn't say the cost
    though, but I'll find out the number and address if you like.

    Gary.
1832.71.6cvhREPAIR::CARTERThu Jul 30 1992 13:4515

    Thanks for your information Gary. I have visited Power Enginerring
    recently (they are based in Uxbridge) and had a chat with them.
    They certainly know what they are talking about when it comes to the
    Ford 1.6 cvh engine. If any one is thinking of having there Ford 1.6
    (carburettor, injection, turbo) being modified they should ring P. E.
    up and ask there opinion. They have spent along time testing various
    tuning parts e.g. different makes of exhausts, different cams, etc..
    and know what suits what.
    They have a rolling road which will give an accurate printout of the
    power of your car. They regulary advertise in Performance Ford and have
    a good reputation.

    I am having the mods done on my XR2i by Power Engineering in two
    days time. I'm looking forward to seeing how much power my car is
    actually producing and what it will produce after the mods.
    Hopefully the improvements will show in that it will be less jerky
    and will have a bit more midrange.
    Let you know what its like after I've had it done.

1832.9Power PackREPAIR::CARTERXR2i'S ARE CRAP!!Tue Mar 16 1993 12:1414

    	I've had the power pack done to my XR2i.
    	The power and torque graph shows that my car now produces 126BHP.
    	This may not sound very much but it certainly makes the car feel
    	faster.
    	The uprated cam has made the engine sound very racey and pull alot
    	stronger from 4000 rpm.
    	The superchip has made the the car smoother to drive and upped the
    	rev limiter.

    	I'm very pleased with the package
