1825.0. "MX6/XEDOS has anyone had a quote ??" by WARNUT::WINSTANLEYJ (Simon Coupland) Wed Jul 08 1992 16:02

Hi all

Having just test driven the new 2.0 V6 XEDOS I am very impressed well equipped,
reasonable go and very well put together. On balance I would say it compares very
well to a bmw 320se but costs only 17,300 surely this will be cheaper on the
scheme.

The other car I am interested in is the MX6 all the car mags seem to be giving it
a good press and most of the dealers I have talked to are convinced that the over
2.00 ltr tax banding will disappear in goverment proposals in september all
though they wont come into effect untill the 93/94 tax year.If this is the case
then the MX6 with a lovely 2.5V6 should again be good value as the list price
is less than 18k and the limited quantities due to there quota,s should mean the
resale is okay.

Maybe things have changed in the last year or two, but Mazdas used to
have lousy resale values. This'll be reflected in the lease cost, I
    guess.

Talking of low resale values, anyone noticed how cheap Nissan 200SXs
get after a couple of years!

    Re XEDOS

How would you prnounce Xedos ?

When I first read the word I thought "Zedos" as in Xerox, but after
reading Auto Express they said it should be pronounced "Ker-cee-dos"

What did the Mazda salesman call it ?

Roy

Auto express have got it right and make sure you do otherwise you may well get
the pronuncation lecture that I had to endure. But its worth it for the test drive
they just gave me the keys and left me to play.

Cheers John.

I go along with Roy... I'd pronounce it "Zeedoss". Although I probably
wouldn't pronounce it at all. It's a real ugly car. The MX6 is far better
looking, or the 626!

Oh yeah, even though the price may be less than the BMW, this may
not necessarily be reflected in the lease cost due to Japanese import
restrictions. Didn't I read a quote in here for a 626 at something like
1500 quid when the price is only 15,000?

I also got the 'XEDOS' pronounciation lecture! The sales guy at the
dealership had it down to a fine art introducing a sort of Arabic 'K',
I thought he just had a bad cold at first....so according to hime it's
"Ker (with flemmy sound) - zee-doss.

Back to the main subject of this note, I was there to see/sit in an
MX6, looks real nice and excellent autocar report. I'm awaiting a
quote back but expect it will be similar to one in 1538 which came in
at about 2.5K about 2 months ago?

As for the Tax bracket, I have just seen likely new tax preposals, it
seems anything over 17K list will attract about 4.8K benefit,
independent of engin size...but then at that level it's more than the
over 2 litre band anyway!! The decision is not what size engine any
more but whether to use my own car..it looks like getting really pricy!

    Cheers

    Nig.
