1802.1 | Would you suggest a fault to try to sell cars? | NEWOA::SAXBY | Vote for Perot : He's got $3B! | Wed Jun 17 1992 12:17 | 8 |

I can't help directly (I've not got a Citroen), but I'd suspect the
recall is genuine. Recalls usually have a negative effect on a car's
reputation and if all they wanted to do was get you down to the garage
the offer of free food and drink is usually a more positive way of
achieving it! :^)

| I've just had the recall notice you mentioned. I was already aware that
it existed as my father (ex BX owner now has a Clio) had received it.
Nothing really to worry about (unless your brakes fail between now and
the sevice visit :-) ), they even said in my letter the check can be
performed while I wait. Mines booked in for 4 July 10am (1st available
Saturday)

1802.3 | Recall | OPG::CMITCHELL | | Wed Jun 17 1992 14:41 | 12 |
| I have just received the same recall message and I phoned my
Citroen dealer in Ascot. They said that the problem is that the clutch
spring can break and the clutch pedal can interfere with the operation
of the break pedal. They said I can go in at any time and they will
fix it. But they suggested that I go next week rather than this week
which is Royal Ascot, so it can't be too serious.
By the way, this dealer in Ascot, Eric White, is really first
class and is located very close to Ascot Railway station. It is about
200yds walk from the garage to the pedestrian tunnel underneath the
railway station platforms.

agree with the definition. It's the return spring on the clutch pedal
that can be prone to stress fracture. Took Speen Garage 10 mins to fit
a new one.
Go book it in, Dano.......

| I had my BX19TGD checked out as per the recall. Chatting to the service
manager I said I had seen the product safety recall notice in the press
and felt it only applied to earlier BXs (than my year). He said that
all BXs (180,000) in UK were being recalled. He then went on to say
that the cost of the recall was offset by getting people back into the
Citreon showroom to look over the latest models whilst the check is
carried out.....
Believe what you will.

I took mine in on Tuesday to my local agent in Wokingham, they did the
necessary too in double quick time. BTW I've never experienced breaking
problems and the car has 82k miles on the clock.
However, two points: I've always services the car myself so it's never
seen the inside of any agent since I've owned it - 18 months. This
leads me to wonder why Swansea is giving out this info when I thought
they were supposed to keep their databases secret?? The other point is
around a breakage which I suspect happened while it was being done. The
drivers seat back has a one piece plastic moulding which is now broken
away from the mounting screws - now I'm almost 100% certain this was
okay when it went in. I suspect the heavy handed so and so who moved my
seat didn't like the lean back position it was set to and yanked it
forward thereby causing the breakage.
What would you do in a case like this, charge the garage or just affect
a fix and put it down to age? (The rest of the interior is perfect).

| Re spring, it's not only BX's (though they're the only one's on recall)
Whilst fiddling in my wife's AX I noticed the clutch return spring was
broken. Cost about 1 and took about 5 mins to fit.
Re .6 I believe the DVLC will give names and addresses per model if
it's for a factory recall, safety overiding privacy. Though I guess the
manufacturers are not allowed to use that list for other means (proof
if you don't get umpteen further Citroen sales offers in the next 6
months).
Re .6 seat back: Ian be positive it was DEFINITELY not broken when it
went in!

| Could somebody send me a copy of the recall notice please? I have a BX
leasemobile and it'll probably take PHH about six months to forward the
recall notice if their speed at sending tax discs is anything to go by.
Thanks,

| I brought my BX into the garage and got the clutch spring changed as
per the recall, it only took five mins and proves that sometimes
cynicism is misplaced (misspelt). BTW while I was thee I brought a new
door mirror (43 quid) so getting people in maybe is not a bad idea.
There I go again.
Thanks for the replies.

While (still) on the subject - any information as to whether this
affects the continental BX or just the RHD flavour? I haven't heard
about a recall here in France.
Thanks,

I have a hertz BX19TGD and I got my recall notice through the internal post .
I've taken it into the dealer in Basingstoke and it took 20mins. Not
sure that they actually did anything in my case, but it was little
effort, and I did see the new ZX diesels, so I guess as has been said
that it does business no harm.
