| Just in case anyone's got a 200 & is thinking about 'upgrading' to the
soft-top:
I just had my 1400 in for a scratch repair, & Avis gave me a 214 Si for
two days. This seemed to go alot quicker than the Cabrio. I always
thought mine was a bit slow cos of the Cat (standard on all cabrio's
since day 1), but the 214 rental car also had a cat so that wasn't the
problem. The cabrio is heavier than the hatchback, but I didn't think
by alot. I suppose it must have cast iron girders joining the bonnet to
the boot.
On the plus side, the cabrio does feel solid on most roads although it
can be a bit disconcerting looking in the rear view mirror to see the
back seats flexing in the opposite direction to the front!
I was wondering if mine had thicker tyres (hence more drag) producing
less 'go' for the same engine, or whether throttle adjustment could be
to blame.
Its still a good car to have, especially on the one day of the year the
sun shines.
Anybody else out there got one of these so we can compare notes?

| I haven't, but I thought the performance of all was worse
than their solid equivalents. This is due mainly to
strengthening under the car to give more rigidity. The
cabrios are also less streamlined (the Cd is higher).
What sort of 1.4 engine do you have? The original 214s
had single point fuel injection. Later models of the
1.45 engine were given multipoint injection which has
improved performance slightly.

| I don't know what engine it is (can you tell just by lifting the bonnet
& peering?). I'd recently heard of the 'upgrade' to the cat 1.4s, my
car was registered at the beginning of Aug '92 - Any ideas?

The latest 1.4 k-series develops about 10bhp more than the earlier
ones.

| You might possibly be able to identify the type of engine. The multipoint
injection have a bar across the engine just above the inlet pipes with a little
valve thingy going to each cylinder.

| re:-1 Brilliant ASCII Diagram!
But the bad news is that I looked under the bonnet & decided its single
point injection - What a bummer!
