1668.1 | Michelin make one (if this aint accurate....) | ESSB::DOODY | | Wed Jan 22 1992 13:58 | 10 |
| I recently purchased a michelin dial type pressure gauge from
DEMON TWEEKS, It was recommended to me by a (high speed) motorcyling
friend and cost ~15 pounds. Easy to use and read (it stores the reading
until you press the zero button). Dont know about BS standards, but can
you always trust the gauge on the forecourt???
They advertise in "Cars and Car Conversions" to name but one
publication.

| I have a dial guage like the one mentioned in the previous note,
I bought it from an auto-parts shop in Farncombe (near Godalming)...
I can find out the name if you're interested.

Re: .1
Tyre pressure guages on garage forecourts are notoriously inaccurate...
I never trust them. Always use my guage to check.

1668.5 | Halfords? | WELCLU::SHUTTLEWOOD | Dr. Who?? | Thu Jan 23 1992 12:36 | 3 |
| I bought one from Halfords a few months ago. Cost I think was somewhere
in the 5 - 10 range. BS number, made by Sykes Pickavent (sp?) who I
believe are a reputable toolmaker

re -1 (dr who?)
I tried Halfords in both Reading (the Halfords "SUPERSTORE") and
Basingstoke, they were one of the places selling the elcheapo plastic
gauge, but nothing respectable.
This raises the question:- do the marketing people target the goods in
multiple chain stores to their perception of the local demand. i.e. Why
did your Halfords, I assume its in Welwyn, keep a better range of
gauges? Or is it sods law that says whenever I try to buy something, its
always been replaced by something else that is never as good as what
other people get!

1668.7 | I have found one! | UKCSSE::KEANE | | Thu Jan 23 1992 20:20 | 13 |
| further to my note .6 I rang the other Halfords in Reading, the one in
Friar st, not the SUPERSTORE in Oxford Rd, They had one of the gauges
described earlier left!!!!!. The assistant even offered to put it by
until I could get down to the shop. I take back all I have been
muttering about Reading car shops, well nearly all! I still think they
dont carry a very extensive or quality product range nowadays.
Thanks again to DR WHO of Welwyn for the pointer!
cheers
