1635.0. "Realistic tyre wear on Company cars" by CHEFS::RIZANT () Fri Dec 20 1991 15:14

Below is an extract from VTX of how lease companies view car tyre wear.
Apparently, PHH car tyres don't wear as much as Hertz cars do, even for the
same car and no account is taken of different wear rates for rear and
front wheel drive cars, or for different types of tyre compound, or for
the type of driving endured, or.....

Sure, if Car Fleet need to put these checks in place then that's ok,
but please why aren't they realistic? Why should Digital get the hit
paying for tyres when the mileage is below the limits and the manager
has decided that it is reasonable? Who says Digital managers are keen car
tyre buffs able to make these decisions!

Has anyone else noticed this strange phenomenon?

     "	Car Fleet News
	TYRE REPLACEMENT POLICY

N.B. Tyre wear and tear cut-off points are 16,000 miles for PHH cars and
10,000 for Hertz cars - tyres replaced as a result of being worn below
these allowances will have to be paid for by the employee and the matter
then taken up with their Cost Centre Manager whose discretion it will be
on whether to reimburse. This is a matter of driver abuse and is NOT
covered under the terms of the lease.

This is NOT a new policy but notification to lease car drivers of
     the existing policy."
