Derek refuses to believe that people would want to drive anything which
doesn't require revving to 7,000 rpm to get it to move! :^)

Re: .0
Hi, I don't have a GTD but I did look into getting one in some detail.
My choice was between Rover 218 SLD, VW Golf GTD and the Citroen BX TGD turbo.
The reason I ruled the Golf out was because until the turbo gets going it
drives just like what it is... a 1.6l diesel on a very heavy chassis.
Heartstoppingly slow when pulling away from a junction even compared with my
previous car (Renault 19 GTD - no turbo).
Other than that, the other two although apparently more expensive come with
power steering as standard which is almost essential on such heavy engined
cars. The final straw was the imminent release of the new style Golf and the
possibility of a new, bigger engine (now proved true).
The Rover and Citroen have the same engine so that choice came down to the
bodywork and finish, a contest which the Rover won hands down! But if the Golf
hadn't lost out at an earlier stage then the build quality was up with if not
better than the Rover.
Ian.
