1590.0. "My horn doesnt work." by NYTP07::LAM (Q Ktl) Thu Oct 31 1991 17:12

Help! I'm not mechanically inclined so I'm not quite sure what to do.
My horn doesn't work. I checked the fuse and it looks fine. I don't
think it burned out. I also looked under the hood for the horn and it
wiring. I think the wiring is OK and what I think looks like a horn
appears OK but I can't be sure. Can anyone suggest what I should do? I
want to try to find the cheapest way to repair my horn.

    you can either

    a) remove the horn and connect the two spade connectors between a 12v
supply and ground (2 wires straight from the battery is the method that
I use). this should cause the horn to emit a horn type sound

    or

    b) connect a light bulb and holder between the 2 wires and press the
switch. this should cause the bulb to light.

if method a is used and the horn makes no noise the horn element is in
need of replacement and if it does make a noise the 12v supply to the
horn is being stopped (try switch, fuses, wiring, connections et al)

    Al

ps. some horns are internally grounded, these have 1 wire and are
    grounded through the horn cover.

Tut! Tut! The horn or hooter is not for venting your frustrations at
annoying drivers, but to make them aware of your presence.

1590.5My horn is working for some strange reason?NYSBU::LAMQ KtlMon Dec 23 1991 17:114
As mysteriously as my horn stopped working, my horn is working again. I
didn't do anything. I didn't do anything to it. I didn't try any of
the suggestions that were mentioned in this note. All of a sudden it
started working again. Can anyone venture an explanation?

    Sorry, couldn't resist.

Perhaps it was damp, and know it's dried out again. This was the
problem with the air horn compressor motor on my Mum's car. I took it
to bits though and dried it by the fire.

.5 I didn't try any of the suggestions that were mentioned in this
         note.

Whats the point in asking further questions if you ignored the advice
    already given ?

I was going to but didn't get a chance to do it. By the time I got
around to checking the horn again. I found it was working and Yes I
did push the horn switch. I did it many times.

My very ordinary horn took to making a funny noise, I took it off,
shook it and a lot of water came out, after tyhat it worked fine again.

Could be the same but yours drained of it's own accord.

    Else, an intermittent bad connection.
