Can someone out there help me to wire up an Oil pressure guage to my Rover V8. I have had a go but don't seem to have got it right. The rear of the guage has three terminals The left and centre terminals are connected via a resistor. The centre and right terminals are connected via a hard link. There appears to be two coils in the dial, one of which might be wired in parallel with the resistor. I think I need: +12v Earth and a feed from the sender ?? Where do the wires go ? How can I test the dial to see if it works ? Any help much appreciated. Regards Tom parallel

How about connecting the sender to the engine in a car that is currently working and known to be good. Replace, say the oil pressure switch with the sender. You may need some adaptors from a shop that sells hydraulic supplies to do this. Try measuring the resistance from the sender to ground with the engine stopped and running, then compare this with the resistances across the three terminals of your gauge. This may give you the clues you need to decide what goes where, but if not try connecting them in different combinations until you get something that works. The resistance measurements should allow you to avoid direct shorts, or anything else nasty. The oil pressure gauge should be connected to it's regulator , if used to give true readings. | |||||

Try looking in the USA spec. MGB wiring scheme. Mine has a good working example. Similar devices used in Jaguar. Regards, Hans Duinhoven . Reach me via Hans den Dulk@UTO |
