    Having used and been interested in the DEC UK car scheme for many
    years, I thought you might be interested in the new leasing scheme we
    have introduced in New Zealand. I have just got a new car and the speed
    with which it was obtained was impressive (remember DEC is smaller
    here).
    
    Monday  -  I ask for the form
    
    Tuesday -  I look at cars. (I had a good idea anyway)
    
    Wednesday  The form arrives, I fax the leasing company with the five
               cars I would consider
    
    Thurday -  The quotes are faxed to me from the leasing company
    
    Friday  -  My manager signs the form. (the car I want in the colour
               I want are naturally at the other end of the country)
    
    Monday  -  Leasing company rings - Please collect car tomorrow
    
    Tuesday -  Car ready
    
    My blood preasure didn't rise throughout the whole process.
    
    Out of interest, and remember we earn less here than in the UK. These
    were the cars I asked for prices on. All had to have metalic paint,
    auto gear box, air con, power steering and central locking.
    
    1 UK pound = approx 3 NZ dollars
    
    1  Mazda 626 GLX estate      $150 per month   50 pounds
    
    2  Mitubishi Magna estate    $166 per month   55 pounds
       (big granada size)
    
    3  Toyota Camry estate       $113 per month   40 pounds (I got this)
    
    4  Datsun Bluebird estate    $ 85 per month   30 pounds
    
    5  Subaru Legacy estate      $155 per month   53 pounds
    
    
    The Toyota Camry is 2 liter 16 valve fuel inj. and seemed the best
    value on the list. My "free" car would have been a Toyota Corolla
    saloon, which is little use to me.

	My brother-in-law lives in New Zealand, and his company car scheme is similar. With his he has to sell the car at the end of the lease on behalf of the company (!). I wish they would introduce a similar scheme in the UK. The first company car I wanted was the Peugeot 205 CJ. At that time the car was a limited edition special. My local Peugeot dealer had one available for immediate delivery, and was willing to supply it through their own lease scheme. All they needed was a contact in DEC to sort out the VAT part. Unfortunately we don't work that way. By the time I'd ordered the car through the official route, they're wasn't a CJ left in the country. It seems to me that allowing us to make our own lease deals is the perfect way to reduce the costs to DEC. Ian.

	Getting rid of the old company car meant that I had to take it round various dealers getting prices. Nobody seemed to interested in it and the best offer I could get for a late '88 Mazda 626 GLX hatch was $8500 or about 2850 pounds. It needed the stone chips "doing" but otherwise was good. I bought it myself and my wife uses it. Getting the quotes for the new car was easy, I justed faxed the lease company with the makes/models I fancied, they then faxed the price per month I would have to pay directly back to me. When I decided on the right one I just faxed the quote number directly back to the lease company, on a preprinted form with my managers signature and my cost centre on it. Using a fax and sending them direct to the lease company meant that it was a very quick process. Because we had been on "hold" for cars, the lease company supplied about 20 cars in the first week. 	Ahhh Gi'day...� I was gonna say that they were all Japanese cars. If it's a German car, add 3-9 months between steps Friday and Monday.
