I have just managed to persuade my Tutor at Polytechnic to allow me to do a Fuel Injection system for my final year project, and am thus looking for any info that I can on the subject. Unfortunately, I am leaving at the end of next week, so won't have much time ot read replies, although I may be able to persuade someone here to let me back in to read anything else that comes in while I am 'on holiday' The main questions that I have been asking are :- 1. Does anyone know of any good books on the subject ? 2. What is the reason that distributors 'look' at the manifold depression. And thus will it be neccersary to look at this when I am working out roughly how fast the engine is accelerating or deccelerating ? 3. If it has a security system which requires a code to be entered before the engine is started, is it unreasonable to expect the user to only reset the code between turning the ignition on and starting the car ? Any other information would be gatefully receivesd also. Thanks Alan ~~~~~~

Straight away I can think of one problem with the security aspect. If the driver is inexperienced/a duffer/stupid/whatever it is unreasonable to expect them to enter the code between every turn of the key. Imagine stalling across a carriageway with fast traffic bearing down on you, you turn the key too far back and you then have to re-enter the code! I would suggest once activated, the system remains active untill either you sense the key withdrawn OR You have a turn off delay to establish that the driver really is turning off (like an alarm exit delay) OR You key it to the door light switch or even better the central locking e.g (or door opened or delay) +->>DISABLED--<<-------------------<Y-CENTRAL LOCKING--N>----+ | | ACTIVATED? | | | | (no effect) | | ^ | | | Y | | ENTER CODE IGNITION KEY | | OK? TURNED OFF? | | | | | +--<N--+---Y>------------------------>>--ENABLED--<<---------+ Thus, activating the central locking with ignition ON has no effect turning off the ignition WITHOUT locking the car has no effect Richard

Yes, thats very true. The security bit is currently only an 'extar marks' type of idea, only thought of last night, so very little thought has gone into that, then agian most of the thought that went in to the rest was about 6 months ago when I started trying to persuade my tutor of the idea, thenI got given another project, but have now been told that I can't do the other project, but this one is a viable project after all !!!!!!!! Oh well. Thanks for the comments Richard. Alan ~~~~~~

Hang on, just noticed what I put. I am in fact only doing Electronic ignition. The original idea was for Fuel Injection, but it was deemed impossible to test so it is just Electronic ignition that I am doing. Alan ~~~~~~ |
