1506.0. "Cars under 1400cc (tax bracket)" by KERNEL::SHELLEYR () Wed Jul 17 1991 14:26

    I thought when the Rover 214 series came out a couple of years ago that
    they could be a winner in the fleet market offering a high spec with a
    16v engine in the under 1400cc tax bracket.

    I know of quite a few people in the office who have opted for this
    model because it was well equiped AND in the lower tax bracket.

    I am surprised that Ford or GM don't provide more interesting 1.4 models
    as the fleet market is a very large area and I'm sure there is a market
    there.

    With the 5GTT coming to the end of production, are there any other
    interesting <1400cc models coming out in the near future ?

    There is the new VW Polo G40 which is a 1300cc engine with a
    Supercharger fitted, that may be 'interesting'

    In about a year's time Peugeot will bring out a fuel ingected 1400cc engine
    in their new 105 car (the Citroen AX also gets the same engine). The 105
    sits on the same floorplan as the AX, but is reported to have as much
    interior room as the current 205. The 105 eventually replaces the lower
    end 205s.

    Talking of the AX, isn't there a GTi coming (maybe already?) out with
    a fuel injected version of the 1360cc engine?

    And there's also the Citroen BX with a 1360cc, and two ZX models also
    with this engine. Several Renault 19 models, and many Renault Clio's.

1506.7R5GTT = 1400 * turbo fudge factor ?CRATE::LEECHBrussels is a long way for a beer !!!Thu Jul 18 1991 14:166
    I thought that turbo cars were calculated differently ? In which case
    the R5GTT would catagorised in the 1401-2000 cc.

    Does anybody know if this is the case ?

    Re .7

    Not for taxation purposes. Only for racing (equivalence factor of 1.7,
    eg 1.4 * 1.7 = new cc capacity.).
