| You'll probably find there's a cover on the *outside* where the aerial meets
the roof. This may prise off, revealing a nut/screw/etc.
As for the aerial lead unplugging, I've never seen an aerial where the lead
and aerial are separable; the only plug is at the radio end...

My Sierra Estate has this type of aerial, the distance from
the mount to radio is a long way. Mind you it is an after-market type,
one of those 15" flexible thingies, and the lead screews into the base
of the aerial.

| The one's I've seen fitting into the roof (my old R5 and visa) The
aerial bolts onto the roof, and the cable bolts onto the bolt. There's
an ingenious arrangement in order to carry the coax across.

Ther may be a cap hiding all this which is all hidden behind a large
cap in the headlining.

You don't say why yo're doing this. Do you really need to change the
mounting? If its only the ariel that needs replacing, it just unscrews.

In answer to the question why am I doing this...
I lazily decided to take my car through a car wash and as I had my
Peugeot roofing system (that's roof bars to you and me) on board at the
time, I had to unscrew the aerial (got the spelling right at last).
Instead of unscrewing the aerial simply sheared of leaving the "screw"
base in the screw-hole.
I had toyed with the idea of drilling (using a small bit) into the
screw-base and trying to unscrew the screw-base with some pliers round the
drill bit, but......!
Incidentally, Peugeot want to charge 36 for replacing the aerial...
which is another reason for the DIY attempt.

Stephen

I'll have a look at my Haynes manual tonight

Haynes manual is not very useful I'm afraid.

P.S. How come Haynes manuals are always full of useful information,
except for the stuff you're really interested in.

.... and why are they stuffed full of such useful pictures of spanners
on nuts and captions like "removing a bolt"?
Do we have a rathole here?

1499.9 | The Solution ! | TRUCKS::BEATON_S | I Just Look Innocent | Mon Jul 15 1991 14:58 | 36 |
| Ok Here's what you do...
Using a flathead screwdriver... lever out the interior light and
map-reading light very carefully... You should place the tip of the
flathead screwdriver on the outside of the frame of the lights... ie
the frames come out with the light units.
Disconnect the cables to the lights and mark them ('cos in true Pug
stylee all cables are the same colour).
After removing the map reading light you will see two screws holding up
the piece of plastic fitting that surrounds the two light units...
unscrew them and remove the plastic fitting.
You will now be able to see the base of the aerial which is covered by
a metal housing/cover. Either lever it off with a screwdriver or yank
it off with a clamp/pair of pliers.
You will now see a setup pretty much as 1499.3 describes. Basically a
bolt needs to be unbolted and off comes the aerial lead... and off
comes the aerial mount itself.
Put back in reverse.
Thanks for all your help and hints in previous replies.
Regards,
Stephen
Ps. Aerial replacement cost 7.00
Cost of Peugeot "mechanic" fitting replacement aerial had gone
upto 40 from 36 between last Wednesday and the following
Saturday.

| 1499.9 Doesn't make it clear whether or not I did the job myself. So
just in case any of you are wondering whether or not I watched 40 go
down the drain... the answer is no, but I shall be spending same on
some other acutrements !!
