1478.0. "Goodbye! 8 days to go." by DUCK::BUSHNELLJ (LastDay = 777600 Secs and counting...) Tue Jun 25 1991 17:15

Well, I'm going to be leaving on Friday 5th July (Friday week) and I just
wanted to say goodbye to y'all.

I've been with Digital since January 1989 on the YT Scheme (It sounds a bit
better than YTS ;^) and due to the current job Market, there's no job for
me here! So off I go into the _Real_ World.
I have to say that I'll miss Digital a great deal. It's a great company
even with all it's present troubles.

Most of all, I'll miss my Workstation and Notes! Two things that I'll only
ever get again if I come back to work for Digital.

That brings me to the next point...Where am I going next?

Well, for the next three months I'm doing whatever comes my way, and if
nothing does, I'll do some charity work.
So if anyone out there knows of some work (_anything_ at all) that they
need someone to do for three months starting about now then mail me
quick!!! (I'm also on (7)899 5412)

Thanks to my YTS, I will shortly have a BTEC National Certificate in
Computer Studies.
As long as I pull another two Merits out of the bag, I'm going to Bradford
University to do a Computer Science degree in October.
I need one distinction and all the rest merits to secure my conditional
offer (I already have the distinction and one merit so far - just waiting
on the results).
If DECollege come up with the goods ('s) on my sponsorship, I'll be back
in a few years on an industrial placement.

Well, I have a lot to be grateful to Digital (that is, the People of
Digital) for. I consider this placement to be the best decision I ever made
as there is no way I would be where I am today without it.

That's about it. Best of luck to you all. May you get a pay rise greater
than 0%!!!

I hope to see/note/speak to/next unseen you again.

Good luck James.

It's nice to hear positive results and opinions from the YT Scheme (;-)), it's
a lot nicer to actually realise that someone has enjoyed and benefitted from it.

Being at Digital probably helped. As you say, despite their current problems
they are still a nice company to work/play for!

Good luck in the future...

Regards,

It seems a shame that the YT scheme has got such a bad reputation, I
have been doing the same course as James and I'm leaving this Friday to
spend a leisurly summer before going off to Brighton Polytechnic to
study for a Computer Science degree in October.

This probably is'nt the right place to discuss this so I'll stick to
saying cheerio and thanks for all the info'. I havent actually noted
here very much as I drive a pregnant roller skate (VW Beetle!) so I've
been noting in the AIR_COOLED conference.

    Regards,

    Russell.

Well, bye and good luck on the course guys, I agree that Digital is a good
place to work/play. This has reminded me of how little time I have before going
back to Poly, I will be leaving in just over a months time, and must say that I
will be sad to leave, but know that I will stand a better chance than many at
being able to get back in (mostly for this conferrence of cource !?!?!?!)

Hopefully though I will be able to get the RS2000 back on the road efore I go
back to Poly, and thus be able to take the Sprint off the road and slowly get
that into (near ?) perfect condition, although time and funds will be limited
next year. Without Digital none of this would have been possible.

Well, the time has come that I leave Digital, as I mentioned a couple of notes
back I am going to finish my degree, and will hopefully be able to come back to
Digital afterwards.

All the help that people have given me during my year has been great, and I
thank anyone who helped (and even anyone who wanted to, but didn't know the
answer). I am sure that I have learnt a lot more about cars from this conference
and have also the satisfaction of knowing that I have been able to help others
with the knowledge that I had before (not a lot I know, but there we go !!!)

Anyway, goodbye all, and keep those engines running well.

Well fellow car buffs, the time has come for me to turbo off into the
wide blue yonder, becoming nothing more than a small black dot on the
    distant horizon.

I have enjoyed tremendously your knowledge on the subject of
automobiles and have been impressed by the humour with which you Ford
    bashers united against me :-)

Take it easy, and don't turn the boost up too high.

    Well Gary,
I never thought i'd find myself saying this but for a Ford driver
your not such a bad stick after-all.

My time too has finally come to an end with Digital. I've enjoyed a good 3
years here in Ferney Voltaire... i may turn up on the Digital circuit again,
who knows! If i do i'll be sure to check in here.

But until then, keep slogging, and play even harder!

Good luck to one and all.

Best regards,

    	Well it's my turn now!

I know i've kinda become a stranger to the notes,i've just been
    double buried with work.

Just before I go (tomorrow),i'd like to say a few things:

A very big thanks to Phill Gill who's been running the fantasy Form 1
note.Your a Gem and if you lived closer i'd buy you a few beers.

The rest of you have been a great source of knowledge and have
increased my enjoyment and understanding of cars and motor sporting events.

My time at DEC has been good (4 years worth)but it's time to move on
and so beware,i'm being armed with a company car!

So it's just left to say,all the best to you noters and drive
    carefully.

Andy... Whats all this ( I've been working so hard)...

Maybe i'm wrong but aren't you packing boxes until you leave because
your a naughty boy... taking long dinner breaks and so on!!! And
now as a punishment have to start work and finish the same time as your
manager, so that he can keep an eye on you time keeping....

So dont give a good impression of yourself, because you dont fool
anybody.... I just wonder if its your decision to leave or if your being
    kicked out...

Well, after 21 years and 4 3/4 months, I've just been told that I
leave on Friday with the compulsory redundancy package!

I am almost pleased to leave after all the hassles and pressures of
the last 3 or 4 years, but to leave with only just enough redundancy
money to have to pay Income Tax on it is, to say the least, unhappy
    making!!!!!!!!!!

Well thanks for knowing you all, for you fellowship in the
conference(s) and the advice I've received on various motoring topics
over the years. Thank you all for bearing with me in my various
rantings - most of them were mean't to be humourous, apart from those
    letting off steam.

A very happy Christmas to you all, may the Lord Jesus shine upon
    every one of you.

Well folks its my time at last.....

They wouldn't make me redundant so I had to leave (only kidding - not! -)! )

I'm off - to pastures new - I'm hanging up the tool case but not entirely.

I'm moving over to one of our VAR's "Hawke Systems", Its been great knowing all
of you - and its been riveting reading, and although I didn't formally introduce
myself I'll formally exit !!!!!

take care all -

During my time with DEC I've had -

Cavalier 2.0l SRi x 2
Cavalier CDi 2.0
Citroen Volcane ZX Volcane 1.9l
And ......

The GSi Astra - nice car but I wont miss it !

the new job gives me a 2.0l car of my choice - fully expensed (yes that means
fuel card !!!!)

I will probably go for the Mondeo or the Accord but mean time I've got an SRi Cav
or a Xantia - I'll manage !!!!

Cheers all - Andy

You can't keep a good fellow down!

After 12 months on the Dole (But all I got was my stamp paid 'cos
I'd gone onto my measly Digital pension) where my Age of 60 and little
experience of PCs prevented me being offered any other employment. When
my 12 months away from Digital was up I rang Amanda in Manpower to ask
about the chances of employment, she obtained an interview next day for
me and here I am as a contractor on X3030.
