1422.1 | will it ONLY run unleaded | UFHIS::GVIPOND | Dex Lisya | Fri Apr 26 1991 12:38 | 15 |

I dont have a Mi16 but I did/do have a 205 Gti, I got this modified
to run on unleaded because the garage said it would be ok, just
retard the timing and everything should be fine they said.
I ran the car for 2 years like this, last week I got a 1450 bill
for new valves/cylinder head skimming etc, now I cant swear it was
because of running unleaded and who could prove it anyway but be
careful. I think the best thing would be to only use unleaded in
cars specifically designed for the purpose, ie specially hardend
valves etc, and not to convert leaded. As for performance I didn't
I didn't notice any after converting.

Garry,
You wouldn't happen to have done more than 50,000 miles and not had the
timing belt changed (which is not scheduled by Peugeot) by any chance?

Colin,
Very possible, still 1400 for a timing belt seems quite cheap ;-(
why wouldn't that be part of a normal service at or around 50k,
and why not at least mention it should be done ? Was it mentioned
in the handbook ? I must admit I didn't read it.
Hope I don't suffer the same problems on the new car, ( Guess what
I'm going to read tonight ).

Garry,
It was mentioned recently in Motor, in a buying secondhand comparison
between the Golf, 205 and R5T. Also, it happened to one of the guys
here with a 1.6 GTi. As to why Peugeot don't mention it, I've no idea.
