| I had the same problem with my Golf when it was brand new. It's just
the exhaust burning off whatever stuff it has on it when it's new.

The reply asking if the hand-brake had been let-off is not as
silly as it seems as I had the pleasure of a trip in the afore-
mentioned 16V and it certainly seemed to me as if the hand-brake
was permanently engaged. 8*) 8*) 8*)
