1376.0. "Faulty alarm, advice sought" by AYOV24::RGELVIN () Thu Feb 28 1991 15:54

Last week I bought a Sparkrite SR90 car alarm plus the ultrasonic
detector module for movement detection inside the car. I installed
it in a couple of hours and it worked first time. However after
driving the car to a friends house last Saturday I activated the
alarm and after the arming period was over the alarm triggered
immediately. I eventually found that the ultrasonic module was
triggering the alarm but when it was cold inside the car i.e after
leaving it for a while the alarm again worked perfectly. I have
reduced the sensitivity to the point that movement just inside
the hatch does not trigger the detector but the alarm still triggers
after the inside of the car heats up. The current sense circuitry
     works perfectly.

Has anyone else had this problem with the Sparkrite SR901 ultrasonic
detector, have I missed something obvious or have I just bought
     a faulty, heat sensitive module?

Thanks in advance for the advice
                                     Richard

Why not ring Sparkrite customer support and see what they say?

(I presume there is a customer support number in the alarm instruciton book?)

    Hi,

I had similar problem, but adjusting the sensitivy worked a treat for
    mine..

I did talk to Sparkrite however, they seemed helpful enough..

Thanks for the suggestions. I already talked to Sparkrite and they
asked if I had tried adjusting the sensitivity. I told them I had
and that even when the sensitivity was such that movements in the
rear seat did not trigger the alarm the device still triggered once
the interior of the car was warm and the alarm then armed. The
strange thing was that the triggering was not accompanied by the
green light flashing indicating a false detection of movement.

I eventually took the ultrasonic detector module back to my local
supplier and he swapped it. The new detector has been working since
    Saturday with no problems.

    Thanks for the advice,
                          Regards Richard

I had a similar problem with Sparkrite and there Ultrasonic
Detector. After much investigation and getting nowhere, I decided to
sell my Car and bought a Saab as this wouldn't require an alarm.
