| If you know the way to Stirling, from there cut across to Dundee and
then follow the A92. Many of the smaller places on the route have now
been bypassed, and it is now quite a good road.
As regards breakfast, buy yourself a faculty scarf, and turn up at one
of the halls of residence. Brekky should start at about 8:00. 8^)

| My parents live in Montrose (approx 60 miles south of Aberdeen). I use
two major routes from Reading, 4 or 5 times a year.
Route 1) M4 to Swindon, A roads to M5, M5 to M6, then A74 Carlisle to
Glasgow (pig of a road, after M6 and a number of accident
blackspots). Motorway (can't remember the number...) from Glasgow
to Stirling and then A roads. Stirling, Perth, Dundee, Fofar etc)
leaving at 7-8pm (and not on a Friday!!) it usually takes around
6-7 hours. Travelling around 99.99mph and only stopping for fuel.
I am a terrible father I know, but the kids are used to that now
;-). This is even getting held up at M5/M6 junction 'cause of Road
works.
Route 2) I have family in Newcastle we often stay there and the route
from there I use is through Coldstream (A697). This is a single
carriageway, but the bends are very "visible" and you can easily
keep a 60mph average, especially at night. This route meets the A68
south of Edinburgh (The A68 is a route which is also possible
between Darlington/Newcastle and Edinburgh but it takes longer
'cause it has more heavy traffic and it's bends are not so
easy to "see" round and it has more "black spots" than the A74!
From Edinburgh, I use the motorway to Perth, Dundee etc.
This route from Newcastle takes around 3 to 3.5 Hours, during the
day.
Now finally to answer your question.... I guess your quickest route from
Leeds is up the A1(m) to Newcastle ... take your pick from there.
I would go on the A697 .... I reckon at night it would take me:-
Leeds to Newcastle 1.5 hours
Newcastle to Edinburgh 2.5 hours
Edinburgh to Aberdeen 3 hours
(will this envoke controvesy ???)
but the choice is yours and I'm only guessing aren't I ;-).
If you want anymore info, ring me (7847 6379) or mail @reo (as I don't
want to bore the others anymore!!:-)
