1349.0. "Honda Aerodeck EXi opinions" by AYOV24::RGELVIN () Mon Jan 28 1991 11:41

    I am intending to buy a second hand Honda Aerodeck EXi and wondered
    if anyone out there had either owned one or knows someone with one
    and has opinions (good or bad) about this car. Points I am interested
    in include:

    Reliability; I understand spares are expensive so this is an obvious
    consideration.
    Bodywork; The cars I have looked at range from 86 to 88 and there
    appears to be no rust problems.
    Driveability; Are they good handling and safe cars to drive.
    Engines; I have been told that in 87 Honda introduced the 16V engine.
    Is this engine noticibly better than it's predecessor.
    Longevity; Again the cars I have looked at all have FSH but the
    mileages range from 28,000 to 70,000 miles.
    Anything else you feel may be useful.

    Thanks in advance for your help
                                    Richard

1349.1But all mine are CivicsCRATE::WATSONKnowledge is power.Mon Jan 28 1991 15:2528
    I've had various Hondas all of them Civics but they share the same
    `generic' style / build quality.

    1. 1984 (A-reg) new-ish style.

    	12 Valve 1.4 Engine
    	Paint Metalic - a few chips but no rust.
    	56,000 Miles
    	Very reliable - never went wrong at all.

    	Althought only 12-valve, very free running right up to red line
    (and beyond).

    	Lotus use this engine as their benchmark - True !!!

    2. 2x1989 (G-reg) Civics

    	16 Value 1.4 Engine

    	Hard to tell any difference between the engines except that newer
    ones are substantially more powerful due to Twin-carb. setup.

    3. NSX - One day ... :-)

1349.2Honda...worlds best engines!UKCSSE::PARKERDTue Feb 12 1991 10:0612

    I think the 1.4 12v engine is the same one in the Rover 213 (old
    style). The engine is 1360 cc or thereabouts. Ours has done 33,000
    miles, no problems so far and is the sweetest,smoothest 4 cylinder
    around.
    Its interesting that in the US, the Honda Accord has been the best
    selling car for the last two years (over 400,000 sold in the US market
    in 1990!)..Honda is seen as a kind of Japanese BMW over there, having
    driven a 2.0L 16V Accord and a 318 (both 4 cylinder) there's no contest
    for me.....Honda win hands down!..
