1283.0. "ICE installation - recommendations??" by STRIKR::LINDLEY (Strewth mate.....) Mon Nov 05 1990 11:33

Where in the Reading area should I go to have a Stereo and Speakers
fitted to a car? I already have the unit, but dont have the time or
the inclination to remove the old radio from the car and fit the new
    Unit.

My criteria are good work, low price and not too far from DEC Park.

Try John Kleis, north a bit on the Blazingsmoke Road. They might not
meet the low price criteria but they are certainly near Death Park.

No go,

I made that same enquiry of them. They will only install stuff they sell.

theres a place near to the Standard Tandoori just up from TGI's, or theres
near Waitrose in Caversham. The former does have a fitting bay next door.

Note .-1 is referring first to Motorlec.

I've brought a few bits there in the past. Am not really impressed by
their sales attitude. I don't know what their installation is like.

I would look out for a CRISP member, this guarantees a good standard of
work (although non-CRISP does not guarantee poor!).

For their telephone number, see topic 121 in MALLET::UK_AUDIO (hit
    KP7).

The other in Caversham is ACR - Thames Car Radio. They are a very good
dealer, really friendly and interested. They didn't install about
4 months ago, they may do now. Tel (0734) 481316

My friend has bought a Pioneer I.C.E. unit, and wants to fit an amplifier to
it, the only problem is, he was told that he needed one with a High Powered
Interface, which is not standard (obvously) and that Pioneer were still working
on their one.
Does anyone know which makes produce such a unit, whether this just means
pre-amp and that he will be able to get away with just using a higher power amp,
or indeed if anyone has such an amp ??

	Thanks

Pioneer make a high power to normal pre-out adapter cable.

This converts a standard 8W or so output of a unit to a level suitable
for connection to normal power amps. This was only available for the
DIN type connections. Not sure if this is available for the newer
RCA type inputs on the newer power amps.

I always thought In Car Entertainment occurred in the back seat in
    remote locations, as it were.

Thanks Raj (sorry about the delay !!)

As it now transpires, I have this unit myself, but does anyone know what the
SW B connection does, or what assertion level the MUTE line is (ie. will you
hear anything if you connect it to ground, or does it have to be connected to
the positive before you can hear anything).
