| The 16V engine was prone to blowing up in the first batch of cars sold
but I thought they had fixed the problem (weak overhead cams). My 16V
has done 23,000 miles and the only problem I've got is with the amount
of oil it uses (I guess a lighter right foot might help).
Sounds as if your friend is looking at an expensive garage bill if it's
his car. I read somewhere the 16V engines are 3.5K plus labour so the
old one must have some value in it.

| A colleague of mine has one of these - and without its problems...
The oil cooler pipe fell off and oil was pumped all over the road.
The engine over-heated and it had to be re-built.
