| Thelma,
I had a TR7 several years ago, I thought it was a brilliant car.
I needed to find a replacement rear bumper, fortunately i found an advert
in the southampton auto trader for a TR7 for breaking. I saw the car
which didn't have an engine but had every thing else in tact. They only
wanted 60 notes for the whole car but as i didn't want to get lumbered
i only bought the part i needed.
I know this doesn't help you and as the majority of these cars are
rusting through because of age and the poor build quality you may have
a hard task finding the parts you need from a scrappy.
Keep your eyes peeled in the auto press you may be lucky. Update this
note when you've found a solution, as i'd like to know how you get on.
-Roy (I'll be looking out for a "winking" TR7, I assume one of your
lights is permenantly raised. Isn't there a little winding mechanism
under the light ?)

| I also had a TR7 and yes there should be a winding mechanism under the
light, try turning the knob once or twice and it may free itself, mine
used to do this if it got wet.

| In answer - I DID go around with one light up and one down - felt
rather a pratt as well - but my colleagues here at Newbury said the
'winking' car rather suited my personality!! Not sure what they ment
by that. Anyway, there it was parked in the driveway, one eye up and
one down and some kind person passing by pressed the up one down for me
and snapped something off hence I cant wind it anymore, I either have
to wedge it up or down - not very satisfactory.
Thanks for your comments Roy - will keep you posted. My husband was
hoping to get to a scrap yard on Sunday, but my daughter's car had a
few words with a post van and her left light needed replacing - I came
second on the list!
Hope to give good news soon - everyone keeps saying sell the car, but I
really enjoy driving it and hope to keep her going.

1229.4 | I think its a classic/others don't ! | KERNEL::SHELLEYR | Adios, amoeba. | Tue Sep 25 1990 15:52 | 26 |

Keep it ! I know they can be rust buckets but I think its a classic car.
I sold mine after 2 years for more than I paid for it. If it is in
reasonable condition its worth hanging on to, especially as you like
the car.
TR7's started production in 1975 or 76 in Speake in Liverpool where
they produced cars with 4 speed marina gearboxes, the build quality
on these cars was not good and they rusted badly. In '78 production was
transferred to Coventry, build quality was much improved and they
were fitted with 5 speed rover gearboxes.
They are reasonably easy to maintain, despite looking radical the
mechanics are conventional.
Perhaps a friend "in the know" or a friendly mechanic can give you
some hints on whether the car is worth keeping, because its probably
not just the door thats rusty.
All the best, keep us posted.
- Roy ;-)
