1167.0. "Peugeot 605" by SUBURB::PARKER (GISSAJOB) Thu Jul 26 1990 14:44
Those nice people at Peugeot kindly invited me to Sandown Park to the
races. Lots of Bucks Fizz, good food, a Tote desk in the hospitality
tent, no hard sell, and three cars to crawl over. They were an
automatic SLi - broadly equivalent to a Carlton 2.0 GLi or a Grandad
2.0 GLi - a SRi - like a CDi or a Ghia - and a Sooper Dooper 3.0 24v
Gofasta (Oh, all right, I confess, I forgot its proper name), which
competes with Carlton GSis.
My impressions - based upon a sit-in, but we could not start them up -
were of a well designed car, big boot in depth and width, although not
particularly high, lots of space inside - better than the Carlton, and
I would not like to say about the Grandad without seeing them side by
side. Headroom was not quite Carlton or Grandad, but was adequate (and
some of you may recall comments I have made in the past about
headroom). Steering wheel was adjustable for height and reach, same as
Grandad and better than Carlton. Seat shape seemed better, although I
am not too confident about lateral location.
I was quite impressed. Launch is mid September; any French located
readers had a drive? What's it like on the road?

| Are the RHD versions being built in the UK?
If not, how does the panel thing that this year's strikes (low morale
afterwards) and factory flooding will have effected build quality of
the French sourced models?
