I understand Mercedes-Benz are changing their entry-level model to a new specification this August. The new version of the 190 is apparantly dropping 200 cc but gains fuel injection instead of a carburettor. Has anyone got any info on the new model (ie performance spec changes, etc)? How does it stack-up against the 190E? CJ

I saw, in one of the car mags - don't remember which one - a picture of the new 1.8 from one of the European motor shows. Possibly Turin? That car was badged 190E 1.8 (like the 190E 2.6 is today). No mention was made of trim options, but the implication was that in the UK it would be the same trim as the carb 190. From memory, power was quoted at 109bhp, with better torque than the carb 2.0. I think it will be in the UK from August? The Merc dealers must know about it. With the sort of waiting lists they have, I imagine you wouldn't be able to order the old 190. | |||||
