Somet to do with a wire in the inlet manifold, which resonates and
tells the chip to change something.
Read about it first on a Corvette.

| Toyota sell a option to the system which is a speaker attached to the inlet
manifold. When the loud pedal is pressed, the speaker produces sounds of
Banzai !, Banzai !

| Re .9 about radio volume at speed
Can anyone explain this phenomena? I used to experience it quite often before
my radio got nicked :-(. When you're wellying along at high speed
down the motorway with the radio volume turned right up to cover the engine
noise everything seems OK. However, when you pull off at a service station and
slow down to idling speed, the radio immediately seems to be blaring out at a
painfully high volume. This seems strange to me because your ears have
obviously adjusted to the high volume so why do they suddenly revert to normal?
I guess engine noise with music thrown in must be easier for your ears to cope
with than just the music - although the total volume is obviously lower. Anyone
know why this is?

It's the embarressment of listening to Bruce Springsteen real loud
and slowing right down and pulling up at traffic lights with
everbody staring at you.
