1021.0. "Astra SRi wheel trims: 20 QUID A TIME!!" by SAC::DELANY_S () Thu Apr 12 1990 12:56
Thanks to some unmentionable individual in Heathrow's short-term car
park, my Astra SRi is now minus all its wheel trims (you know, those
lovely spiral-design things with the red Vauxhall `griffin' in the
centre).
I've noticed in the past few days several sporty Vauxhalls that have
clearly had their wheel trims removed by a method other than hitting a
kerb. This appears to be a new variation on the fad of nicking VW
badges.
Having enquired of my local Vauxhall dealer as to the price of these
things, I was staggered to discover that wheel trims for a Vauxhall
Astra SRi are 20 quid ***EACH*** (oh, plus VAT, by the way). That's 100
quid, just to cover your wheels! I couldn't believe it... I'm sure car
fleet won't be very impressed. To cap it all, I was in the short-term
car park just for one day, which cost nearly 20 quid as well. There's
also a shortage of wheel trims for SRis, and there won't be any in
stock for several weeks.
Well, first of all, has anyone else's car suffered the same fate, and is
there a source of cheap wheel trims for an Astra SRi? (as far as I'm
concerned, they don't have to be the same ones as supplied: I don't
care, as long as they fit: my white Astra looks decidedly naff with
open black hubs). Does anyone know of a scrapyard dealing in Vauxhalls?
The irony is that SRi wheels are 14-inch, not the 13 inches of standard
Astras, so the individual who nicked my trims will hopefully discover
that they don't fit his own clapped-out vehicle -- what a shame.

The best way to replace them, is to go to the Heathrow Airport short
stay car park, and wait for an Astra SRi to come and ...............
A vicouse circle ?

You're kidding yourself. Car Fleet don't pay your own Cost Centre will and
after you gone through the grief of filling in a "accident form".
I would speak to your CC manager and explain. He'll probably agree to the
expense if he has done his budget right.

Especially if he's the sort of CC manager whose happy to sign off
20 for a day in the short term car park!
Personally, I always use Gatwick. The long term car park is very
convenient, and costs 3.30 for 24 hours.
