| The GSI2000 16V Cavalier looks like a nice car. The Cavalier in general seems
very well designed with no major faults.
However, I heard that due to the Catalytic Converter, the engine doesn't give
as much power as the Astra 16V (same engine), and, in terms of performance is
not much faster than the 2.0i L Cavalier.
However (how many howevers am I allowed?), a Salesman I know has one, and likes
the fact that the wheels don't spin like they do on the Astra.

| Only the 4wd version has a Cat at present, 2wd is fairly fast, (as
quick as my 205) well built and handles well (not as well as an Mi16).
There are plenty of electric goodies.
The boot is smaller than other Cavailer saloons, and constitutes the
main reason I didnt order one.
Why are GSi's so much cheaper on the scheme than Mi16's, they cost
about the same, and both cars are agressively discounted to fleet
buyers.

| DON'T TOUCH AN Mi16 !!!!!!
I,ve had an Mi16 for 14 months now and it has been nothing but trouble.
The car is an excellent design and when (which isn't often!) its
working properly its one of the most plesant cars I've driven.
What lets it down is the build quality which is appalling and the
quality of service from the dealer network. Each time a spare part
is needed there is a weeks wait as M116 spares are very difficult
to come by. I thought it might be just 1 dealer but I have now
tried 5 and they are all as bad.

Good topic!!
Yes,I`m in the same position aswell, flogging the old
RS Turbo and have gave some thought to the GSi 2000.
Could someone post the performance, mpg and cost figures
for the 2 cars (and for the BMW 318 iS) as I work too
hard to have the time to go out and buy any magazines.
Saw a 2000 GSi the other week and it did look good but
have heard Vauxhall are having big probs with the 4WD
version. Also had a look at the MX5 but at the moment the
Beemer is winning although there`s a new bodyshell coming
out for the 3-series so I`m totally perplexed as to what to
buy.

| Re: .5
I'm considering the BMW 318is.
Had a good test drive on Saturday last and was quite impressed.
BMW are quoting 14,750 pounds for a base spec car and the
consumption figures compare very well to the Cavalier & RS Turbo.
The only problem is the dam cost on the lease.
A bit of speculation recons on approx 5800/2500.
I think the old Cavalier may win this time......

Does the cost of the car come in to it..??
Apologies if this is mentioned anywhere else.

1012.8 | Lease costs | VULCAN::WILLIAMSC | | Fri Apr 20 1990 14:15 | 16 |
| re: -1
The lease cost is based on a number of different aspects :
Cost of car / resale value after lease period / cost of service,
parts / deals that the lease company can get from the manufacturer
This means that if it is a new model of car the lease price will
often be expensive to lease in the first couple of years of manufacture
as the lease companies have to estimate on the resale value of the
car - also foreign cars will also be more expensive as parts/servicing
are dearer.
Hope this helps.

So why are there 2 BMW 535 quotes on the scheme with apparently
the same options, but nearly 3000 difference in price to a qualified
user?
The pricing scheme mystifies me!
