1004.0. "MGB Wirewheel exchange price wanted" by HOO78C::DUINHOVEN () Tue Apr 03 1990 13:14

Hello,

    I'm busy to get me an MGB GT. Currently I have an option to buy
    a 1971, but the wirewheel splines are worn.
    Please can anyone indicate, what the exchange price is per wheel
    in the UK?, The rest of the car is reasonable solid, with replacement
    wings, sills, rear valance, engine, gearbox & overdrive.

    Thanks in advnace,

    Hans

    Try phoning MG International. The Mail Order service is quite
    good. The number is 051-666-1666 (remove the first 0 when phoning
    from outside the UK).

    Is it just the wheels or the splined hubs as well ???

1004.2Anybody want a B tonneau?PLAYER::KENNEDY_CE=M3Tue Apr 03 1990 15:066
    MG International? Those "dear fellows" took a load of MG gear off me
    a good few years back. The old dear was clearing things out, and
    managed to get 20 for 2-3 gearboxes, axles, and all sorts of bits.

    I was a little annoyed when I found out.

    re: .2

    Is the B tonneau offer serious ??? If so, then perhaps yes ...

    After leaving the roof off the B last night and then hearing rain
    at 5 o'clock this morning and having to rush out and put it back
    on, I feel that a tonneau could be a good idea ...

1004.4Let's try MG InternationalHOO78C::DUINHOVENDutch treatTue Apr 03 1990 16:2216
    RE 1004.1: Thank you Mark.

    It seames, they did not always do what people expected from them.
    Anyway, the splines on the hubs do not seem to be worn as the wheels,
    but I'll ask what new hubs will cost as well. This maybe, because
    the hubs might be made out of harder material, than the wheels.

    Pity is, that the engine, carbs, some interior parts & radiator
    are not of the correct year. I miss the adjustable timing f.i.

    I'll try MG intl and see what's possible.

    Is there maybe an MG Car Club member, who has a club discount option?

    I have discount at MG International ... I have a customer card with
    a customer reference. If it helps, I could order it for you. Ask how
    much the discount is.

1004.6Pricing form MG InternationalHOO78C::DUINHOVENDutch treatTue Apr 03 1990 16:3011
    Hi,

    More news: MG Intl price seems very reasonable to me:
    exchange wirewheels: 28.- with 15.- surcharge per wheel.

    Now the bad news: new hubs for wirewheels cost 50.- each.
    Secondly they are not on stock, nor expected soon.

    Cheers,

    Hans

There's a place in Langley, Berks, called Motor Wheel Services, who sell
"original equipment" wheels and splines; I'll try and find their number this
evening...

    I am a member of the MG Owners Club, and I also get discount from
    Spridgbits of Birmingham, which despite the name do sell all available
    parts for B's as well as Midget/sprites.

1004.9Useful numbers...IOSG::MARSHALLA mse once bit my sister...Thu Apr 05 1990 10:1921
Motor Wheel Service:

Langley: (0753) 49360          International: + 44 753 49360
Manchester : (061) 428 7773                   + 44 61 428 7773

New wheels 80 - 100 + VAT for chrome wires, 20 less for silver enamel; higher
prices for wider wheels rather than larger diameter

New splines: 20 - 50 + VAT, depending on car (MGB are the 50 ones, I'm
afraid!)

Spinners: 20 + VAT

If you haven't had a car with wires before, don't forget:
- most of them need inner tubes (with rim tape and other hassles)
- you have to get the spokes tightened every year or so

These prices are all approximate and from memory; I've got their price list if
anyone wants an exact price for a specific size of wheel.

1004.11Wire wheel sources.IOSG::MARSHALLHarry PalmerTue Jul 17 1990 12:066
Where, other than MWS, can I get wire wheels? Specialist places selling just
one size for (eg) MGBs are no good, as I need to check out several different
sizes to see what's going to fit best and look nicest. Although MWS have
everything I need, I would like to be able to compare style, quality, price...
