998.0. "ionisator in the car?" by RTOISB::SUPPORT_OR (Deep'n steep powder...) Fri Mar 30 1990 11:16

    Hi there !

I am about to buy a thing called ionisator for the car.
I know that these 'machines' are better known in Great Britain than
here in Germany. I got some infos from a company, Mountain Breeze,
and finally found a shop here, which sells some of them (for car,
    terminal, home).
Does anyone have experiences using it in the car; is it really that
    refreshing for long travels ?
What about the problem with the dust, getting ionized and therefor
sticking to the interior of the car (or the walls of the room at home)?
Which models do you use ?
Are there ionisator-topics in other conferences?

    Thanks in advance,

    Olaf.

998.1A matter of opinionSYSTEM::BOOTHEFri Mar 30 1990 11:3011

I've bought a mountain breeze ioniser for the car and to tell the truth
haven't noticed a great deal of difference on long journey's, although
my boyfriend swears it makes a difference.

As to dust - yes dust does collect around the ioniser but it takes a
    fair time to become noticeable.

Someone I used to work with had one of these things on her desk - The
idea was that it would neutralize the effects of +ve ions from her
    terminal (gives you headaches etc.).

The only problem was that it seemed (may be coincidence) to destroy
terminals (one went up in smoke) and the server ports they were
connected to. After 3 terminals and two servers the ioniser was removed
and there were no more failures (in two years).

BTW the headaches didn't go away with the ioniser in use!

    Dave.
