800.0. "Did ZIEBART work?" by LARVAE::BRIGGS (They use computers don't they?) Fri Oct 13 1989 19:23

I was following an ancient Hillman Avenger the other day and noted
that the vehicle was in EXCELLENT condition. It didn't look like
the driver was a restoration enthusiast or anything (old chap, cap
etc). However, then I noticed a fading Ziebart sticker on the rear
    window. This started me thinking...

Did the Ziebart craze in the early/mid 70s work? Now is about the
time the results should begin to show.

Has there been any official research? Was Ziebart just another
marketing hype or did it really do any good?

    Hi,

I have a 1980 Horizon and after 5.5 years of driving, I claimed
warranty, because rust was coming through three doorpanels.
The car always had been inspected by the dealer according to the
sceme. After an extra inspection by the import company (Peugeot)
the claim was honoured with thre new outside door panels & a respray
of all doors & wings, because of metallic paint.

The car still is in perfect condition besides the left front wing.
    Looks almost as new.

This time the warranty was o.k.
