661.0. "opinions sought..." by CHEFS::CLEMENTSD (steam nut by choice) Thu Jun 29 1989 12:28

    Comments sought folks.....

Nedd:-	Transport for a family of 2 adults and kids of 16,15,10,4

    Perceived choice:-

1	Renault 21 Savanna	Practical, good room, tinny, bits keep
falling off, all local dealers pathetic

2	Citroen CX Wrong tax bracket, ugly,

3	Peugoet 505 Reports of extreme unreliability,
thirsty, due to be retired this year
                                Wrong tax bracket

4	Montego	Estate Made by ARG (need I say more?) seats
in back face wrong way, only suitabe for
little kids, small car anyway (no luggage
space with extra row of seats)

5	Volvo 240 series	Same problems as Montego, Small seats
look wrong way, and thirsty as well also
getting a bit long in the tooth

6	Volvo 7XX series	Expensive, wrong tax bracket(?) thirsty
seats look wrong way and are still only
good for the one thing that you DON'T want
to put right at the back...small kids

    Anybody any other suggestions?

Looked at (and drove ESPACE and Space Cruiser) didn't like either
'cos ofavailable space outside seating, consumption, driving
    like a bus.

Merc estates are too expensive (base car with third row of
seats is over the #19,250 tax threshold[and they want #600 for a
towbar!!!!!]) and same problem with rear facing seats.

Anybody hear any rumours of a Granada Estate?

Or details of the Peugeot 505 estate replace ment due this year?

Dick(who is desperately trying to justify having another SAAB but
is at the present moment likely to be stuck with another 2.5 years
    misery in a Savanna)

I guess I now kneed to close this note off. After several months
heart-searching I have decided that the replacement for my current
Savanna will be another. Please note that this is not customer loyalty,
but sheer desperation on my part. I have been through all the options
in the marketplace and have ***reluctantly*** concluded that the
Savanna is the best fit for the job. It wasn't my first choice,
but price comes into the equation somewhere and I couldn't afford
    a Discovery.

I shall be as sick as a parrot if this one turns out to be a lemon
    as well..........
