Hi,
I am contemplating replacing the wifes Mini Cooper (J reg, normally aspirated
varient) with something along the lines of a Fiesta, Corsa, 205, etc. I will be
doing a part-ex.
What I am after is any tips on how to get discounts out of dealers when you are
doing a part-ex deal.
I might decide to sell the Cooper privately and wave a wod of cash at the
dealer, so any hints on cash purchase deals would also be appreciated.
Thanks
Simon

| How much will you be asking for the Mini?

| Why do car maufacturers insist on maintaining high list prices and high
discounts when it should be obvious to them that this practice benefits
nobody but the inland revenue?
If one manufacturer decided to adjust list prices to a realistic street
price do you think that others would be forced to follow?
Do you think that maufacturers may be locked in to discount agreements
which no longer make real sense (e.g. Vauxhall with X% discount
agreements to Digital)?
What is the concensus here?

| I blame corporate purchasing departments. Why? The same thing happens
with computers.
Once a selection of product has been made it is handed over to "The
Purchasing Department". Their job is to beat down the price ie big
discounts. It is therefore not in the interests of car, or computer,
or... to have a low list price. "The Purchasing Department" would still
want their 20 or 30 or xx% discount.

| I suppose also that companies like Vauxhall rub their hands with glee when
people go and pay list price for things like Vectras etc.. without
negotiating a discount!
