I thought i'd look this note up as I managed to get a drive in a H'
reg Carlton GSi 3000 24V.One word sums it up:
INCREDEBLE
Needless to say it's not my car,but I wish it was.The car manages
to pull itself from 0-60 in around 6.5 seconds(I manage to time this
with my stopwatch). The car gets to 110mph and then 'kicksdown'.The ride
is sporty but smooth.I'm still buzzing now.You can forget Jaguar or
Mercedes this is my dream car.

You should try and ex-police motorway pursuit car!
I managed to get an ex-TVP 3.0 Senator (Without stripe, Sob !),
140+mph, outrageous 0-60 (Not yet measured though) and all of this
for 1400 quid....

TVP?????Thames valley police???
My Uncle has a 1985 Senator 3.0 CD.Very nice and very fast,but a
bit of a guzzler. He let me drive it once, and I was scared beyond belief
,though that's understandable when i'd just got out of my 1.2 Nova.

Apparently it had TWO reverse gears.

TVP....Yup, indeed that is Thames Valley Police....
The standard 3.0CDi machine can do a lot of damage too, although with
all the gadgets etc... It is a bit too heavy to be considered a
performance car, now the police car, that is a different matter.
It is a complete strip down with only the basics (taxi spec), plus
a few nice add-ons, hot brakes, suspension etc... and a very nice
'put together properly' engine...

Old note too, isn't it ?
I thought this one was argued out some time ago.
And what's the point of having two reverse gears ?
In an auto, fit a higher ratio and let the torque converter work it out.
Being a Police Car, they would simply turn round if necessary. They
may be taught to drive 'well', but I fail to accept that they can then
drive well enough to overcome the inherent problems with reversing at
high speed (enough to make an extra reverse gear worthwhile).
Perhaps your friend had the axle/diff frigged about to work in reverse,
thereby giving only one forward speed ???

cars reversing rather quickly to get back through stationary motorways.

Can't say that I have... But I do appreciate it wouldn't always be easy.
>> cars reversing rather quickly to get back through stationary motorways.
Quickly, yes.
Quick enough to utilise a higher ratio reverse gear - safely ?

That's just what I thought. Hence my comment it was an old statement
that had been argued out before.
