| Anyone know if an RS Cosworth will run on unleaded or super unleaded?
Simon.

i'm pretty sure older ones could be adjusted to use unleaded...?!

| DO NOT GET YOUR CAR ADJUSTED !!!!!
I did once, but I think I got away with it...
Seriously, I was charged 40 to have a bit of wire added to the EMU to
'allow the car to run unleaded' (I had been running unleaded OK
already), and the car was almost undriveable, I had to take it straight
back and get the 'mod' removed.
I always run the Snail on 98 octane 'Super Plus', partly because it's
the Green Thing To Do, and partly because she gets indigestion with
some brands of 4-star (Dave Brodie's work...) and I can't ever remember
which brands they are.
Basically, as far as Cosworths go, Super Plus is the best thing since
they hung the guy who invented sliced bread.

| How do you guys find the Cossie 4x4 over the long term ? Any know weaknesses
and trouble spots (mechanicals, electricals, body, interior etc.) ?
Has the suspension been firmed at all since the Sapphire was released ?
What are they like to live with in the city ?
Would you buy one again ?

longterm is something Cossie owners needn't worry about - it's highly likely
to be quickly stolen :-)

| There was an article in last month's Performance Car about the Sierra
Sapphire RS Cosworth 4x4, and what they thought of it after a long term
test over 1 year and 23,000 odd miles. Apart from having it broken into
twice, the owner said he really liked it and was very sorry to have to
part with it. He also said he'd have no qualms about having another
one.
I don't think the suspension has been firmed up on the Sapphires. I've
heard reports of the rear bumper bottoming out on the ground. I noticed
a Sapphire Cossie last week with 3 people in the back seat, and the
rear of the car was sitting *very* low to the ground, so I guess the
rear suspension is not very firm.
I had a drive in a Fiesta RS Turbo on Sunday and found that the
suspension was very hard in comparison to my Escort RS before I got the
Konis put it. The Sapphire Cossie is still supposed to handle superbly,
so the suspension must be OK.... pitty I'll never get to drive one.
Still if you get one, let me know, and I'll steal it on you :-)

| A new Cossie a while back would have set you back 28,000 approx. But I
read that if you shopped around and told the dealer you had been
offered one for a grand less than he was asking then, you could get
this price down by about 4,000 pounds.
Now I think you can pick one up for about 21,000 pounds.

| I think Performance Car quoted the reatail price at 26 thousand odd.
But after one year they worked out that the car had depreciated by an
alarming 7,500 quid!

The list price has recently been cut from 26,000 odd to 21,000 odd.
Ford say that with a bit of haggling you might/probably get one under
the magic 19,250 barrier

Then you've got to insure it! :^(
I'm in the progress of insuring my Lamborghini Diablo (No, sorry,
that's just what people must think I said when they give me quotes
for the Calibra!) and I was told that a Cosworth would cost me double
the Calibra - That would mean anything between 1000 and 1500!!!
That with 8 (count 'em!) years NCB, no convictions (EVER), no
disabilities (perhaps agreeing to pay insurance counts as a mental
disability?). All in all, I should be a good risk, but the only risk
I can see is that I'll be buying another Fiat Uno 45 to go with the
wife's!

Not recently (After all I doubt the car would run so well if I took
out half the valves! :^)), but when I was changing the Renault I got
comparitive quotes and the extra eight valves were costing about 10
quid a throw! (As I recall, it may have even been more!).

521.22 | Group 20B | YUPPY::ELLAWAY | Martin Ellaway@hhl | Wed Feb 26 1992 17:47 | 12 |

List price for the cossie is now 21,380 but you can still haggle for
your 10% discount which should bring it below the 19,250 tax level.
Re last few - I was down the local Ford garage and A bloke who I know
through RS meetings was there and he said his cossie had been chipped
which makes it group 20B under the new ratings as opposed to group 20
for the standard cossie. The car is on an E plate so is probably worth
about 10,000, he's 27 with 40% n.c.b and it costs him 4,000.

| What does the ``B'' stand for in ``Group 20B''. I assumed (obviously
wrongly) the the new 20 group insurance scheem would remove the need
for extra ``special'' groupings (A'la old 9+)
