I had a 'race' home on the M4 last night with a Berkshire County Council gritting lorry. I was maintaining a steady 65-70 mph and this thing kept apace about 300 yds back. Having passed one of this trucks in the past whilst it was in the process of depositing its load my question is it safe for these leviathons to pound down the motorway at such a speed chucking out lumps of grit and salt ?? 394.19 | There's no such thing as a Motorway "fast lane!" | SUBURB::POWELLM | Nostalgia isn't what it used to be! | Wed Nov 25 1992 17:32 | 13 |
I'm in catch-up mode in this Conference. What is all this about "overtaking lane" singular? There are two overtaking lanes on three lane Motorways! There is only ONE driving lane on all Motorways! It is illegal to drive anywhere but the driving lane on Motorways! You can be "done" for driving in the "middle lane" except when overtaking OR if the driving lane is full. I'm not sure about these things on the M25 now that there is 4 lanes though. Have to see if there is a new issue of the Highway Code to cover that. Malcolm. | |||||
