| Not the right note - but dit/title=gatso drew a blank.
My father has just received a letter from the Plymouth Constab' as
they have a picture of his car going thru' a mobile gatso in Horns
Cross near Bideford (where the hells that I hear you say).
Incredibly, he is the 1st person that _I_ know of who's been caught.
Damm! Now I've said that, I bet I get caught next week..

Hello,
Has anyone else noticed the Camera's on the Lamp posts on the A33
between Reading and Basingstoke ?
There's one on the North bound side just after the Sherfield-on-Lodden
roundabout, and two others, (North+South) at the roundabout prior to
the Dual Carriageway, (again going North)
These don't look like GATSO systems, more like standard video
Surveilence cameras mounted on the Lamp post looking at the traffic...
Is this Big Brother.....or something else...

| Probably installed due to the ever-increasing traffic problems.
I doubt they're GATSOs, they're normally just surveillance equipment
aren't they?
BB is here, it would seem.
Cheers,
Dan

190.26 | Big Brother really is watching you ... | QUICHE::PITT | "Where there are no people, the vision perishes..." | Mon Apr 24 1995 18:12 | 11 |
| Go in to the front entrance of Shire Hall, Reading, and there's a big display to
your right on which you can watch what these and lots of other cameras around
the Reading area can see - at least there was a year or two back, when I last
went in there.
Apparently, they are watched so that someone can alter the phasing on traffic
lights if the traffic flows are abnormal ... They extend quite a long way from
Reading - Thatcham is to be connected up "soon" apparently - it's quite possibly
the whole of Berkshire.

Hi,
Strange thing is they're gone now....
Only there for a day and a half?
Maybe they just gave up!

| Have you heard that starting from may the cops are using infrared video
cameras on bridges etc to read car reg nos. Then they will check for
out of date car tax and use as evidence for prosecution.I thought this
kind of camera action was at one time not an intended use.
All the same it sounds pretty pish...

These were being tested by Leicestershire police on the M1 in the
middle of roadworks last year, scared the hell out of me to see the
registration of the car I was driving up on a board and a big
"speeding" label next to it. I think they've passed the trials, and
have been licensed for use generaly.

| They're about to stick one of those things (a reg reader and display) on a
beautiful new straight stretch of the M4. According to local press, the
section (just before Swansea) will be the most tooled-up mile of the M4, with
every possible gadget to stop people speeding. It is an approach to a 50 limit
area (a side-wind elevated section), and they are having problems with loonies
taking it at 100mph because of the straight "run-up". I'm not looking forward
to them putting these things up, as I only go home once a month, so they'll
probably just appear one day when I least expect it.
