126.0. "What delivery delays ?" by UKOSC::BRUNNOCK (Andy Brunnock - Greyhound Man) Wed Apr 06 1988 10:18

    Who said there was a delay in the delivery of Ford cars ?

    I ordered a Sapphire GLS end of February and got a note back from Car Fleet
    saying it would be delivered mid-June. This was not unexpected considering
    the strike et al. Week before last, I got a call from Hertz Leasing saying
    they could deliver the car slightly earlier than expected. I thought yeah,
    like the end of May. Nope. 7th of April [i.e. tomorrow :-) ]. Delivery time
    of five/six weeks!!!

    Talking to the Hertz Leasing guy it seems that orders for standard
    cars [which mine is, can't afford the spoiler :-( ] get through
    fast. The manufacturers produce a stack of standard models and leave
    them parked outside. When you (or rather a garage) order a standard
    model, they just drive it off the parking lot and deliver it to
    the garage - thus a five/six week delivery time. Cars with optional
    extras require either a standard car to be modified or a car to
    be built including the extras.

    I'll enter a reply telling you what I think of it as soon as I have run it
    in [to run in a nerw car, the first 500 miles have to be done over 65 mph,
    right? ;-) ). Anybody thinking of getting one and would like a drive,
    contact me (next week - this week its all mine) on 6291 in DEC Park 1.

    I know that most of the replys on this note refer to the delivery date
    of fleet cars,but I've ordered a Corsa SRi from Wadham Kenning.I
    ordered the car in the begining of August and I'm still to receive an
    estimate on the delivery date.I phoned them again today and they're
    still no wiser.
    	I'm aware that most car manufacturers close over some of August,but
    it looks like i'll be waiting until the end of October for my new
    car,and i'm not very impressed.

    	Andy.

    I've just been informed by the garage supplying me a Calibra, that the
    delivery date has been moved to the 19th November, from the 15th
    October - i.e. today. They said this has happened to a lot of their
    cars.

126.10Which garage did you order from?PEKING::ATKINSAPRC Vauxman.Fri Oct 15 1993 16:369

    	I was offered the Demo SRi which I have decided to take.It has
    three spoke alloys,sunroof,alarm and red,not black like the carI ordered,
    but the car I originally ordered had no alloys or sunroof.

    	I pick it up tomorrow,i'll let you know what it's like.

    Andy I'm confused by your reply.

    Are you saying you are taking on a Demo pre registered vehicle as
    a lease car ?

    I understood that we cannot lease second hand cars or is this a
    personal buy.

    to take there demo.

126.13How long for a NAUTILUS 16V !!!ROCKS::BATTARBEETue Oct 19 1993 13:5512
    Seems to be taking a bl***y long time ......

    I ordered a 16V Cavalier Saloon in NAUTILUS with Leccie sunroof and trip
    computer on the 11th AUGUST.

    Aint 'eard nuffin yet....

    So much for a 'preffered" car scheme (perhaps they have run out of the
    new colour already !!)

126.14Long waitEBYGUM::WILLIAMSHTue Oct 19 1993 14:147
    My Calibra took 4 months from ordering to actual delivery. I ordered it
    Last September, it turned up early January.

    "Ah, well you see Sir, not many Blue ones around, we've had to order
    from the Factory, and we have to wait for the boat to come in!"

    Huw. (pleased with it now though)
126.15Same here...!!!COMICS::HALFACREETue Oct 19 1993 14:5015
    I'm still waiting the delivery of my Astra GSi from the old car scheme.

    It was ordered on the 22-Jul-93, received a delivery date of the
    6-Oct-93 which then changed to the 18-Oct and is now the 12-Nov-93.

    Apparently all orders for Astra GSi's are factory orders as there
    aren't any at any Vauxhall garage throughout the UK.

    It's nice to hear that with this demand for Vauxhalls, they are still
    able to cut production and give there workforce an extra weeks holiday
    due to lack of demand.!!!

126.16Idle CuriousityNEWOA::FIDO_TConation is the keyTue Oct 19 1993 14:538
    As this doesn't directly affect me, this is only a query out of
    curiousity:-

    Given that the lease company charge Digital for excess mileage and/or
    excess length of lease, can anyone explain who pays this excess when
    the delay is due to the new car not being delivered on time ?

126.17ERMTRD::CLIFFEI'll warp my own space-time ...Tue Oct 19 1993 15:1415

    My Astra diesel is due 15th Nov - after being ordered in early August !

    Re - .16 I asked fleet about this, as my car was due up on 4th Sept,
     and that I am over 60k. They said there is a three month 'grace'
     period to take late deliveries into consideration. Never asked about
     the milage.
    There was a topic/reply somewhere in here that, if I remember, said
     something like the cost centre picks up the tab after 60K ??

    I wonder if these delivery dates are due to sourcing from a restricted
     garage list ??

    I would think they would rather sell them to public first and we
     get them when the factory makes them.

This was certainly true for my previous non-vauxhall car when I was in the car
scheme, AND it cost the company significantly more. It's amazing what you find
out when you know the garage owner and find him in a pub, most of what I found
out I couldn't publish. Let's put it this way, the word that springs to mind
begins with car. Digital, like many other companies can do very little about it.
