| reviving a topic on car ads.
Has anyone seen the tv advert with the Rover Metro - the one with the
blindfolded guy groping the steering wheel of the car whilst wondering
aloud which one of several phallic objects it is?
It ends with the caption "I bet he doesn't drink Carling Black Label"
I just wonder whether it implies that you need to drink copius amounts
of (very poor) lager before realising that you are indeed sat behind
the wheel of a motor car?!

| I agree, that is a strange advert. Presumably paid for by the brewers
of Carling, rather than Rover.

| re .6, .7 "It's a Gherkin"
Well I thought this ad was hilarious. Carling Black Label ads are always good,
and this one, poking fun at a very poor original advertisment (let's face it,
no-one could be sat blind-folded in a metro and think it was a 2.5l large car!)
is one of the best.
Art, I think the point of the advert is that the man is stupid (doesn't
recognise it's a steering wheel). As Carling would have us believe their lager
is an intelligent choice, the ad concludes this man doesn't drink it...

| yup - I understand the ad Scott - but I simply _hate_ it. I'm glad I don't drive
a Metro :-)

Yep, great ad - but I was dissapointed to learn this was filmed only a
few inches off the ground...

| Art,
Well at least my metro is an Austin one and not the inferior Rover offering
with a gherkin for a steering wheel :-)

A stunt driver in a Astra, performing various handbrake turns and
spins, stopping right on the edge of what seems to be the roof of a very
high rise building. Of course he needs the Continentals to do this!
Looks very impresive and was apparantly filmed only a couple of
inches off the ground! (GOSH)
